RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

RUN FOR YOUR LIFE

They are some of the most powerful enemies in games, and will fuck your shit up.
Also, deathclaws, supermutants. And don't go all running around. There is quite the wild life out there.

Headshots. Headshots. Headshots. And not just headshots with that starting 10mm pistol; get a hunting rifle, tape it up real good, and use VATS and the crosshairs to headshot anything that comes your way.

Problem solved.

I've run into quite a few of those huge ass things with five tongues, Centaurs I believe. Frag grenades take out a good chunk of health and a handful of assault rifle rounds usually finishes it off. Super mutants aren't that hard if you can get some VATS hunting rifle headshots in at close range, but Georgetown after the sewers still had me on the verge of dying constantly. Haven't run into any deathclaws yet though.

Haven't found someone who can repair the hunting rifle (or anything, really) beyond 60% or so, but I've been able to hold my own for now.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Alright, I'm wanting to get Broken Steel, and there's a good variety of torrents for it. Can I install Broken Steel even though I'm a fair portion of the way through the game, and still get all the new perks and items and stuff?

Disregard, I just found out that the torrent I got had a second ISO containing all the DLCs.

Yeah, I can promise it'll work fine, though there's an old glitch where broken steel doesn't activate after the purifier, just load and try again if that happens.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

So I installed the iron sights mod (and in the process, inadvertently managed to fix the problem of the DLCs not loading). However, I can't stand the new looks of the guns, and the iron sights don't even work. How would I fix this?

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Nope. After disabling the mod in FO3 Mod Manager, the shitty new weapon looks remained. Removing the mod files from the game files caused the game to crash upon launching it. Fuck this, I'm gonna reinstall. Where are my saves located, I want to back them up so I don't lose 'em upon reinstalling.

edit: I had to go to the actual FO3 configuration program and disable the base mod (which for some reason wasn't being disabled when I set it to be so in the MM). Still, I'd like to get the iron sights, and none of the new models or anything.

Pretty much. It is funny to shoot something and watch it fly twenty feet in the air and then have a seizure upon landing on the ground though.

Not really. I finished the quest in like five minutes. With 80 or above small guns, Ranger armor (+10 small guns, +1 luck) and Ol' Painless repaired past 90%, it's practically a sniper rifle.

TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Bumpity bump bumpington for the... third time now I think.

Due to a quest being an impossible bitch and glitching, I would need to use the console to give me the stuff I need to complete it. However, trying to use the console results in nothing happening. I've tried editing the .ini files, I've tried disabling infrared devices, and just about everything else that's been suggested out on the internet. Is there any other way to enable the console, or is the quest doomed to stay in my pip-boy forever?

Talking about New Vegas, btw, but it's basically the same as FO3 in terms of the technical stuff.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

Currently on the task of getting the irradiated dog tags from the ghoul NCR soldiers, but only like 50% of the ghouls in Camp Searchlight I kill have the tags on them. So I'm stuck with (usually) six after I get the tag off the non-feral ghoul trooper in the house. I've traveled all around the area, to the airport, mines, sniper nest, and I do find more ghoul soldiers, but none of them have the tags on them when I kill them. Trying to use the console to give myself the remaining tags I need, but as I said before, the console doesn't open, no matter what.

Oh, search console on newvegasnexus, there's several things that help fix an unworking console, or failing that, alternate accesses.

Re: Thinking of trying Fallout 3

None of the fixes work, and the workaround requires some script reader or something, which will only work if I have the latest version of New Vegas (which I don't, I have the pirated version so I can't download the patch unless someone puts it up on TPB or something).
