RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

screw school

I am inches away from saying the fuck with school
i'm tired of it i don't really care about school anymore
all it does is stress me out if i start worrying about grades
and school is just so boring i'm barely interested in what they are teaching
it's not going to help me anymore because i want to become
a musician it's my dream, the only problem is if i don't get
a diploma then it would be hard to get a job
since becoming a really good musician that enough people like
to get some money 80% of the time doesn't happen over night
anybody got some suggestions on how to say the fuck with school and
still be able to get a job

Dude, we're like... twins!

Just try to pass eigth grade and then say fuck it during high school and leave. In terms of not killing yourself over stress, it's just a government run baby-sitting program. You are an outsider. You don't belong there. It's not your life, it's just some place you have to hang around for seven hours a day.

I wouldn't recommend it. (It might be alright, depending on the person.)

It tends to be more difficult, because less of your grade is from tests. On a test, it's not difficult to guess or otherwise make up an answer without putting much effort into studying and such. With assignments, you have to actually do the work. Also, you can't convince yourself that you've done enough by just sitting there for 6 hours; you actually need to get work done, unlike at a regular school where attendance is enough. If you want to get the work done without all the bs, distance schools are probably a good choice. If you think the work itself is bs, you're likely better off going to a regular school and not doing it.

Also, it depends on what your parents are like and how well you work when people are bothering you. For whatever reason I can't work when people are watching me, so distance school isn't working out all that well. (I could never do work in class either, but since most of our marks were from tests it didn't matter.) It might just be a change from your teachers bothering you to your parents bothering you.

You have to go to school anyhow.
Unless you wanna be sent to a Juvenile Detention Center, or you could just do things that I won't mention. I don't want to give you any ideas.

Sorry, government is around. It is a fact. You can't just "fuck it" because they're the ones with a monopoly on using force against people.

They have big guns, and the support of most of the population.

had very little chance at winning, look at the american revolution.

anyone that has a rebel within them selves have a chance of winning

We are a small grassroots movement. We are kids. Nobody will listen to us. Nobody except a very few. We do not have enough support.

I'm sorry to say:

but it's not that simple. of course one person alone can't change the world, but what they can do it set the stage for others to join. Mao was one man, Che was one man, Michael Collins was one man, Ben Franklin was one man. they can't win on their own but they can get the ball rolling. If everybody said they couldn't change the world, then they'd be right.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Ben Franklin, there's a man you can admire.

On Topic: I know that one person can "get the ball rolling", but they didn't do it alone. The real people that did it were their followers. Those are the people to admire. I have tenfold more admiration for any militiaman during the revolution than any of the founding fathers.

The fact is: One person can't change the world alone. It takes a bunch of people.

right, but it has to start somewhere. the people are the dynamite, the visionary is the fuse.

(BTW, Washington was a founding father and he fought side by side with the continentals. they weren't all just sitting around writing declarations while the common people died.)

You can get around this by saying you're going to be unschooled. Unschooling is a perfectly legal method of teaching (though its a bit of a hassle in some states.)

triplets? i think more, it seems like many ppl here are in 8th grade. and im pretty sure most ppl here feel that way bout school.

one person starts it off, even scientifically speaking, if something happens, thers a force behind it, the force is usually made up of many people, which was started by a smaller group, whcih was started by an idea, and i can almost garuntee that no two ppl had that idea in the same nanosecond, so technically, one person strats it, one person CAN make a differance. i mean, for instance, the ppl on this site are are kinda united under quite a few anit-school causes, and who started it? soul, if she handnt made the website, who knows what might have happened? i probably wouldnt know any of you, and matt might acually have a life beyond the compy. just saying, one person can start things, and you cant have anything happen unless its started.
