RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Favorite Characters

List your favorite characters and why you like them.

===== My favorite Characters. =====

These are in no particular order... Almost all of them are smart, responsible, do what they need to do and work in a field they enjoy. I kind of adopted some traits from each of these characters.

1.) L Lawliet - From death note.

Awesome fucking guy. Genius, doesn't afraid of anything, I have a lot of the same traits as him. If you've seen death note, you know why.

2.) Officer John Cooper. - From Southland.

He's cool, he knows what he's doing and he's a badass. He's a bit of an asshole, but he usually has a good reason for it. He's responsible and gets shit done.

3.) Huey Freeman. - From the Boondocks.

He goes out and gets shit done (or tries to.) He is abnormally good at everything he does. He's smart. He's revolutionary and he's awesome.

4.) Kakashi. - Naruto.

A lot of the same reasons as John Cooper, but he's nicer and different in a lot of ways. He also has a laid back side to him, which is cool.

5.) Tyler Durden - Fight Club

Does what he wants to do, isn't afraid of anything, gets shit done and I like his attitude towards shit.

6.) Kisuke Urahara - From Bleach.

Laid back, but gets shit done when he needs to.

7.) Sherlock Holmes - Sherlock Holmes (lol)

Is a cool guy, goes out and gets shit done. He's the go to guy, kind of like L, in his field, and is an authority. He doesn't conform to societies norms and he pretty much does whatever he thinks is necessary. Uses drugs on occasion, and can fight pretty well.

I can't think of too many more right now, but I'll probably add to this.

Naozumi Sudo

Can't say I can agree on his ideal on the world but as a character and a person I like him.
Kind and polite he believes he can change the world, releasing it of its bonds to tradition, custom, and common sense by means of a society based on one's abilities; he claims that only those who have an impact on the world truly deserve to live, and that the human race is wasting the limited amount of resources available to them. He has no qualms with killing others not because of malice but to achieve his goals.

Some call him a dangerous sociopath but he's actually pretty reasonable and doesn't limit himself through morals or ideas and even works with other people with different views than himself.
He actually succeeds in wiping out humanity through a nuclear winter but dies once he realizes he is no different than humanity and starves himself while realizing he hates himself most of all..

Because fuck you.

Let go of all desire for the common good, and the good becomes common as grass.

Lord Henry is the ultimate baller of all generation.

Some cupid kills with arrows, some with traps.

Re: Favorite Characters

I felt like doing a big one like Absent because I can and fuck you.

In no particular order.

1. Ashot, from STALKER Clear Sky.

Nothin' horribly special, but he's a laid-back and optimistic guy, who plays a vital role in keeping the Freedom faction going. Also, he has a sense of humor, so yeah.

2. Bill, from Left 4 Dead.

Incredibly badass in every way. Rough around the edges, but a good-hearted person. Is realistic while keeping a sense of humor about him. He may look like a nursing home candidate, but he doesn't walk, act, or shoot like one. Not to mention how he
Hidden stuff:
jumped off a rising bridge when it stopped rising, so he could kick-start the generator and get the bridge rising again, knowing that he'd die, so the other three could live. Oh, and he did this while a massive horde and three tanks were coming at him. May he (and his presumably moon-sized testicles) rest in peace.

3. Father Valerian, also from STALKER Clear Sky.

Also badass. So the army has been letting the stalkers transport their goods and crap around, for a fee of course, right? However, the military commander starts getting greedy, and sells the stalkers out to bandits, as well as stealing some of their goods. So what does Valerian do? He unites the stalkers, organizes a fucking ambush upon the commander (and his escort) when he's out driving, takes the commander hostage, kills two military squads who were going to try and bust the commander out, and then interrogates him repeatedly, all to get the case of loot he stole. What ultimately becomes of the commander is still unknown.

4. Sonic, from the Sonic series.

A drifter, "live and let live" as well as "live life while you can" type guy, and hero on the side, as well as a sense of humor, what's not to like? Also, the added bonus(?) of being able to occasionally use self as a living pinball.

5. Adrian Shephard, from Half-Life: Opposing Force.

While Gordon is out taking the fight to the aliens, Adrian essentially saves the world from a different species of aliens (granted, aliens took over the world anyway, but that's another species, as well as not the point). That, and gas masks, pipe wrenches, and fingerless gloves are sure signs of badassery. And we don't even know what he really looks like.

6. Barney Calhoun, from Half-Life 2.

Yeah, Gordon technically sparked the Rebel uprising, but Barney organized it and led the forces in the field for an entire week while Gordon was stuck in the teleporter. That's hardcore, especially when you take stuff like Striders and the Elite Combine Mooks (and the sheer number of standard Combine mooks) into account. Often offers to buy beer for others; rarely delivers, using the invasion of murderous aliens as a poor excuse.

7. Kruglov, from STALKER Shadow of Chernobyl.

When you first encounter him, his science team is being besieged by a group of mercenaries attempting to get the data he is carrying. The player can, of course, choose to help him, but if you don't (or if you're a really shitty fighter), the mercenaries will continue to pick off his team one by one until he's the last one left. The leader of the mercs will then call him up over the radio and try to negotiate with the scientist - his life for the information. Kruglov ignores him; when Wolfhound gives up and says, basically, "I've had enough. Looks like this is going to get ugly," Kruglov defiantly replies, "As you wish." If the mercs manage to kill him and you search his corpse, you find out that his last act was to delete the data so the mercenaries couldn't get it. Bad. Ass.

8. Tails, also from the Sonic series.

While he may not look like the badass type, after realizing that he's the most capable mechanic you'll ever meet, and a highly skilled pilot, not to mention how he can still hold his own in a fight, swim, and fucking fly, you gotta give him serious props. Oh, and there was the time when he had to haul ass across a bunch of rooftops and unsafe-looking highways to a dud nuclear missile, saving a whole city while Sonic was off kicking ass on a huge airship or whatever (basically the Adrian Shephard to Gordon Freeman, except the city didn't end up going to hell/being destroyed by another force years later).

9. The Hunter, again from Left 4 Dead.

I dunno why, but the Hunter is just so awesome. Maybe it's the fact that he renders you completely unable to fight back, as he turns your digestive system into ground beef, or that he can be completely silent, or maybe how he can leap thirty feet into the air. Either way, he's one cool zombie.

10. Forester, once again from STALKER Clear Sky.

While bloodsuckers can take out even veteran stalkers with top-tier gear with ease, this badass grandpa living near the Red Forest was able to bag himself one with little more than a double-barreled hunting shotgun and an ushanka for protection (see pic). There's also the fact that he lives in the Red Forest (a place where most stalkers are afraid to set foot even in heavily-armed groups), alone, and has been since well before the original '86 disaster.

While we're on the topic of badass people, to a slightly lesser degree, every single person in the entire Zone. Those who aren't generally don't last long.

Yes I got completely carried away but I did it because fuck you.
