RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I remember in wood shop one time the teacher wasn't there, so he left us work to do while the substitute was there. His directions were to "outline the chapter" in the book.

My friend opened up the book, put it down on a piece of paper, and actually outlined the thing with a pencil. He signed his name and passed it in. Laugh

A little while ago we had a test in US history and the question was something like "who was Susan b Anthony?" and he wrote "a woman who ate 1000 pies". The teacher gave his test back with "she must have been hungry" written in red pen next to the answer. Laugh

I know I've done one or two before, but they probably weren't funny, since I can't remember them.

Have you guys ever had to write a response to why you did something that go you in trouble?

I have had to write a few in my school "career." A few years ago I thought have to write a statement on how I was late everyday to my first period was fucking stupid. Here is what I wrote, if I remember correctly:

"It was 6:07 AM on December 8th, 2005. I silently rose from my bed, my room still dark, for the sun had not yet graced the earth with its appearance. As I was smoothing out my bed cover, the great god of the sea Neptune ripped the roof off my house, stuck his triton septor staff into the ground and yelled, "ALEX! You must be exactly 47 seconds late to class today!" In awe of what had just happened, I thought of nothing better to do than what he told me. I resumed my routine right after he had replaced the roof and vanished into the ocean. Finally, as I was walking to school, I heard the warning bell off in the distance. I thought to myself, the gods are smiling at me. 7 minutes and 47 seconds, I walked into class and was handed a referal the teacher had already drafted for me. I thought to myself, i may have gotten a referral, but damn, I saw Neptune this morning!"

That was pretty close to what I said.

I never really gave an explanation why I was late any other day and I just continued to be anywhere from a few seconds to 5 minutes late everyday. Who gave a shit, back then all we did was sleep in our first period advisory class.

I once described the quality tested solution in chemistry with a wine taster's description..."fruit forward", "hints of berry" and "essences of oak and leather"...things like that. I think I also said it was "elusive."

If I hadn't thrown away the paper then yes, I would post it.

This is one that a friend did:

He was asked a math question about a square with certain measurements and stuff:

Quote:"And the Lord sayeth [the squares shall be similar] and they were!"
-Aslan 3:28

He got full credit. He did go to a catholic school though.

Let's do the time warp again!

I have a project where i have to advertise fro why people should to god's mitzvot.

And am handing this in for don't kidnap - Why should you perform this mitzvah? Because, if you kidnap, you will hurt your neshama* (and go to jail for a long time and you will be scarring them permanently for life, but that’s far less important)!!

I saw a funny one on the internet so I used it on a geometry question.
It was something about making a proof on some triangle or something, and I just drew a big elephant and wrote "I can't. There's an elephant in the way."
In red ink the teacher put "Ok....?"
Got no credit, but it was awesome. I also remember labeling parts of the body in Biology class stuff like "that-part-that-dangles-ertus" and in Health I always screwed around lol. Health is a dumb class.

There was once a question so insanely difficult that I could not find an answer for so I put "Waffles" as my answer and I got full credit on the test. To this day I do not know what happened and my friends now call me Waffles.

A group of friends and myself have recently started a movement in our school to put at least ONE funny answer on every test. I can't really remember any that have gone through yet, but i did use several fake bible quotes in my last math test.

Example:

Explain why the equation listed above is impossible to solve. (and then there was an equation above it.)

The real answer was because you can't divide by 0. I put:

"Because Sean Almighty says it is!"
-Sean Chandler 1:1

For the next one question, i put:

"Refer to verse 1:1"
-Sean Chandler 1:2

Oh and in my last biology essay, for one of the citations i put a footnote that said "Just ask anyone"

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."
- Plato

OH lol i remembered another thing!

Me and a friend had this lame english teacher last year who was like the suckiest teacher evar. She assigned us essays every other day, but me and my friend didn't think she actually corrected each and every one of them.

So i put a recipe for chocolate cake in the middle of my next essay to see if she actually read them.

... I got 100%

I told our STA (Student to Teacher Advisor) about it and she got reprimanded lol.

"We can easily forgive a child who is afraid of the dark; the real tragedy of life is when men are afraid of the light."
