RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Some Argument Between Akdonn and Thunder

youvebeenthunderstruck:

I'm starting to see how this works now. If you don't AGREE with somebody's position, you send them to the corner and put a dunce cap on them--that's called "Old School!"

Listen, thunder would gladly debate with you on this matter, just not in that thread.
my god.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

So:
It matters WHERE the discussion is held, even if the challenge is "on topic"?

It's alright to call other posters names like "idiot"?

This forum seems more and more like school every day...

Yes, if someone starts a thread for a specific purpose, and they request it to stay that way, than we will oblige their request.

It's alright to call other posters names like "idiot"? - FUCK YES

Why is not alright?

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

I was on topic. I was commenting on the topic appropriately. I was arbitrarily placed into another topic. My point is that sending people to a different thread because you don't agree with what they have to say is not much different than what I have seen a lot of posters on this board complain about happening at school.

sheesh!

No you weren't.

Anarchy was not the topic.

Getting it was.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

I pointed out that "getting anarchy" is not such a hot idea if you think about it.

Topic: getting anarchy
Position: Think about it

You are mincing words, my friend.

That thread was not about thinking about it.

The people there already thought about it. They would be glad to discuss in another place.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

I'm getting it now! DON'T THINK ABOUT DOING SOMETHING REALLY STUPID! Just participate in a discussion about DOING SOMETHING--ANYTHING--on the topic of "anarchy" without regard of actual consequences.

Isn't that what Muslim misfits do when they strap bombs to themselves and blow up a bunch of innocent people?

I won't ask you to think about that, either...

If, you were smart, at all, you would have searched through the forums, and found that there have been many topics about anarchy. Then, you would have either

a) bumped one of those topics and discussed it there.
or
b) start one of your own.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Wrong. If I was "Smart" I wouldn't be wasting my time here. I admit it.

Just because some topic has been discussed before does not make it any more logical when somebody says "now that it has been discussed let's just DO IT!"

(Oh, and if you don't agree with our premise that we should do it, then argue it with somebody else like darthmat who has started a whole thread saying you are an "idiot.")

I guess I'm really not very smart to be letting that happen and perhaps I should just go away...

actually, if you have discussed many many times, in many different places, and have pondered over it for years, then yes you can do that.

I am not commenting on whether anarchy is good or not, i am saying whether or not your post was appropriate.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

The first rule was: "1) This is NOT a thread to decide whether anarchy is good or bad. If you want to do that, start another topic if you feel so inclined."

You broke that rule, so you got moved.

I just signed on, so let me clarify something.

First, I think it's a shame that akdonn is being called an idiot. It's allowed, of course, because freedom of speech is never stifled here.

I moved your thread because it was outlined in the rules of that topic that what you brought up wasn't what was being discussed. It doesn't mean I don't want to argue it necessarily. The only reason I did this was that the thread could potentially become very large, and would become very confusing if some of those things were allowed.

Can I request that the topic title be changed to something more polite?

Akdonn's first post is here, he can do it.

The only reason it got moved was because thunder specifically requested in his thread that no arguing against anarchy is to happen on that thread (because it would get in the way, and we have entire forums with infinite space for all the arguments in the world, if you happen to be so inclined, as many are). We don't often do things like that, but it's his thread and he can make rules specifically for it if he wants to.

It's not just mods and admins that can do this. If somebody sets rules to a thread posts that violate that criteria will also be split. Which isn't an official rule, more an unsaid agreement.
