RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

My idea of a perfect school
I've thought long and hard over this and I believe I have an alternative to school.
Consider this:
Scattered across a state lie these centers. These centers contain a certain subject. An example would a center that only teaches and informs people on science and math. Another center could house athletics, and so on. I've devised subjects that a center can hold:
Science and Mathematics
Creative and Preforming Arts
Physical Education
Electronics, Computers and Computer Programming
History/Current Events
Religion, Spirituality, and Philosophy
World Languages
Humanitarian Affairs (Police, army, fire, medical, construction, ect)
Vocation Training
In these are departments. For example if you go to P.E, you can go to the baseball department. You can go to where ever interests you and sign up. There, you can choose to be lectured on about that subject, ask for one on one teaching, or look up stuff in the library.
Rules:
No destroying property
No running around
Keep the place clean
No fighting
No intimate deeds
Don't steal stuff
Don't harass instructors
Don't scream
If you break these rules multiple times, you can expected not to be let back in.
Any suggestions, comments or questions are welcomed.

Re: My idea of a perfect school
Something like that has been brought up a few times before, and I think it's perfect. Maybe the major subjects should be in one center though, it'll save up a lot of time/money/resources/ etc.

Been thinking about this as well. I fail to see flaws in it. Would be awesome.

1. Well, as long as you define what area. If you don't like buzz people or anything, I think you should be able to run.
2. No fighting? Well, maybe if they had a wrestling center =3. But I know what you mean.
3. I wouldn't harass an instructor unless he failed.
4. Sometimes, you have to scream. But like, not to be annoying or anything. Or not to scare. Sometimes to vent, or otherwise.
Those are the only ones I saw little flaw in.
Much better than what I am slaved into TODAY.

What ever is the point of this? Why have any kind of school? Life is better.

Good point.
Well, maybe same 'center'
But definitely not the same education room.

Re: My idea of a perfect school
Yeah, I feel like we should use the current school buildings and convert them into these centers. The classes won't be in the same room, or even department, but they should probably stay in the same area... It's cheaper and easier to get to.

Re: My idea of a perfect school
Well...
Do they try to educate you on everything or just what you're interested in?
Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.

I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay
Watching the tide roll away
Ooo, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the bay
Wastin' time

If you want to be taught everything, then they will, as best as they can.

Re: My idea of a perfect school
Hm, my question was more; do you have to take every course for ages because they think they must introduce you to everything?
Honestly there are a few courses like English and History I think I've had enough of.

You can start at any age. Or at any time you feel as though you want to understand a subject.
