To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

College recruiters...

We had a college recruiter come in today and tell us the finer real points of college..
And by real I mean she basically acted like a dumbass and started bringing in gangsta slang, 50 cent and other teenager crap I didn't care about... She also gave us the jive about how if we don't
go to college then we will work at McDonald's flipping burgers until we get replaced or something and then went into a rant about how if we don't go to college then we pretty much don't matter as people... I know its her job to recruit us and all but she was as bad as the people who came out there...

Military recruiters- Talked about how you could be your own man, Make lots of money and basically the military would take care of you which is bullshit... The only time you make money is when you become a Lieutnant and thats when you give the grunts the orders...


Job recruiters- They come out there telling us how good their job is like UPS...
And how 8.50 an hour is good pay until you find out that they have you filling up trucks with packages of stuff and they time your best time.. If you go slower then that then they dump you like a used razor but they think well their dumb teenagers... They won't figure it out....

Sorry I had to rant...

Very true...

It's fun to tell the college recruiters that there isn't any difference between them and the military recruiters.... they get annoyed Biggrin

I'm not sure we even had college recruiters at Maple Grove. It was such a "duh" that everyone would go, they didn't bother putting funds into it. We did have millitary recruiters every single day at lunch though. And they were just out of place.

"What are they even doing here? We have what? Three students enlisted out of the 2,100 that go here. You'd think they'd move on by now."
"You'd think they have moved on when they realized we're one of the whitest richest schools in the state."
"I don't know about the richest, but definitely the whitest."

Quite literally. We got the statistics in Sociology class. Nobody ran for Junior diversity council. I got elected kind of randomly. "She doesn't do sports, she's diverse."

That school sucked.

heh, i remember when i we had a highschool recruiter come and i was sitting in the front row so he was standing right there, and practically ON TOP of me! i was leaning so far back in my seat i practically fell over, and he kept smiling down at me. *shudder* ugh

HoS - no matter what, you decide what you do with your life, just keep that in mind
