RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Re: Movies about revolution.

It's not really a "revolution" movie, but what about Accepted? It's a pretty good criticism on the college system in America and how many kids aren't really "learning."

I got a decent list going here: http://www.launchpadmovement.com/conten ... ution.html

Accepted's a good movie, but I don't know if it's relevant enough. I'll think about it...

Re: Movies about revolution.

I haven't seen movies 3-6 on that list, but I did like V for Vendetta.

As for Fight Club...don't get me wrong, I liked the movie, but I don't know if I'd call it a movie about revolution. Sure, he rebels against everyday life, but the author of the book intended the moral of the story to be that everyday life can drive people who feel disconnected with it to be dangerous and do extremely wreckless things, not to encourage people to just beat the shit out of each other for 6 pack abs.

Re: Movies about revolution.

Braveheart: probably the best "rebellion" movie ever made, IMO

Brazil: 1984 as seen through the eyes of Terry Gilliam. Brilliant, surreal, funny, sad...and Gilliam had to fight tooth and nail against a powerful production company just to keep them from butchering it, so the movie itself is a triumph of rebellion.

Land and Freedom: Little-known but excellent British film about the Spanish Civil War

Michael Collins: Epic movie about the Irish rebellion since 1916. Liam Neeson was so awesome that the Irish government invited him to unveil a new Michael Collins statue in Dublin

The Wind that Shakes the Barley: Same director as Land and Freedom. It's the same time period as Michael Collins, but from the point of of view of the post-treaty IRA instead of the Free Staters.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: Not really "revolution," but definitely rebellion

The Patriot: Shitty movie with Mel Gibson being his normal crazed self, but still, it is about the American revolution

Libertarias: Another Spanish Civil War movie. Not as intelligent as L&F, but still entertaining

Akira: the rebellion is more of a backdrop to the real storyline, but its definitely there

Reds: Loooong epic about the Russian Revolution.

Red Dawn: *sigh* Yeah, I know. But all you said was "movies about revolution." Not that they had to be good movies.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.
The quickest way to kill a revolution is to wait for it.

Re: Movies about revolution.

Lol, thanks. I'll go through and add those as soon as I can...

And genuine anarchist about fight club, you're probably right but it still involves fighting back against the system, and change... I might take it out, but idk...

Edit: Also, I'll give you credit. And I heard they were remaking "red dawn" some time this year lol.

Re: Movies about revolution.

Guess I'll put up some.

First Wonderful Days..

Quote:An animated movie..

The movie ultimately deals with themes on modern issues such as environmental destruction, pollution and class struggle, the latter of which echoes the 1927 silent science-fiction film Metropolis.

Wonderful Days is set in 2142. Environmental pollution and catastrophes has led to an almost-breakdown of human civilization. A high-technology city named Ecoban was built by an elite of people that gains its energy from the polluted air. But now the air is getting cleaner again and thus the city is in danger of running out of energy.[2] So the elite leadership in Ecoban is planning on re-polluting the environment by destroying its surroundings where an underclass called the Marrians lives that the city is currently exploiting as a cheap force of labor. But a group of those is putting up violent resistance. Among them is an enigmatic young man known as Shua (Marc Worden), whose presence after a 10 year absence from the city lands him back into a love triangle with his childhood friend, Jay (Cathy Cavadini), and her boss, the security commander for Ecoban, Cade (Kirk Thornton).

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wonderful_Days

Next Metropolis.
Quote:The film is set in the massive, sprawling futuristic mega-city Metropolis, where society is divided into two classes: one of planners and management, who live high up in luxurious skyscrapers and one of workers, who live and toil underground.

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_%28film%29

Next is the anime version of metropolis that was made in 2001.

Quote:Metropolis is a futuristic city-state where humans and robots coexist uneasily. Robots are heavily discriminated against, and segregated into the city's lowest level. Much of the city's human population is unemployed and impoverished; many blame the robots for taking their jobs. Duke Red, the de facto ruler of Metropolis, has overseen the construction of a massive skyscraper called the Ziggurat.

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolis_%282001_film%29

Next is Now and then, here and now(Warning this is not a nice anime but the revolution isn't suppose to be nice is it?)

Quote:Although it may seem like it at first, this is not a lighthearted series. Much of the series deals with serious moral issues relating to war, the consequences of war, rape, democide, human brutality and the exploitation of children.

Quote:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Now_and_The..._and_There

Hope those work absent.

Its a little different but its more or less the same.

Now basically robots are lower citizens and like the mexicans are stealing everybodies jobs and the humans who are stuck in lower living and slums are mad about it and try to stage a revolution and...

My bad going into spoilers. Rolleyes

Movies about revolution.

People thought it was some sort of Matrix knock-off because the Matrix and Equilibrium appeared so close to another in release, when in fact they had absolutely nothing to do with each other.

My only issue was the fact there was practically zero explanation about how emotions were supressed. My assumption is that it wasn't "total emotionless" but rather the drug simply dulled sensation of extreme emotions(though it appears that it doesn't work very well if the emotion is so powerful it overcomes the drug)

Movies about revolution.

He did, mainly because he missed a dose.

But I was referring to the fact others who were supposedly on the drug had some sort of emotion. The guards for example(who experienced surprise and/or fear).
