RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Goddamn fucking seriously!

I have my stepdad annoy the fuck out of me because he doesn't get that I like sitting on my pc and I don't want to go get hang overs and pretend I give a shit about having friends.

Take out the "emo bitch" part and I agree.

Hidden stuff:
TRIGGER WARNING: THIS TRIGGER WARNING CONTAINS TRIGGER WARNINGS!

Dear Tumblrites: Despite your wrongly self-diagnosed PTSD, no line of scientific evidence suggests people can be triggered over the internet. Triggering works through the senses (i.e. smell, taste, touch, vision, hearing.) but it goes through real time; if you're not experiencing it in real life as it's ACTUALLY HAPPENING in your ACTUAL life, you CANNOT be triggered. The only exception to this is if you have a seizure, but then again, that's triggered by epilepsy (i.e. rapidly-changing flashing lights) NOT PTSD. Remembering a bad incident is NOT the same thing as having a flashback. When you remember, you think; when you flashback, you feel.

Re: This image contains truth

Hehe its kind of funny seeing this right now. I decided a while ago that I really don't mind having a small social life. I don't like people. I'm currently arguing with my parents about how I spend "to much time" in front of the computer. What the fuck am I supposed to do? Sit in the living room and watch T.V. like you guys instead? Fuck that. The reason I hardly hang out with anybody is because you think my friends are drug dealers.
It's ridiculous. I cant wait until I move out and I can just be my fucking self. Get blazed off my ass in the comfort of my own home and not have to worry about getting in trouble or having people bitching at me about me living my life the way I want to live it.

Re: This image contains truth

Depends what you enjoy, I decided long time ago that I will not rot away in front of my pc. I may not have a large social circle but at least I'm not bored to fucking death like I used to be.

When you're at highschool, being a basement dweller sounds like fun because you don't have to do anything, but then even after a few months of sitting in front of that computer everyday the boredom kicks in so hard it becomes painful.

Ps but for you guys still at school, you don't have to worry about this so much yet. I'm just warning you that life can become extremely boring if you've got nothing to do day after day

Oh, I'm not saying sit in front of your computer. I'm just saying, why not be a lazy bastard? Buy a house and work to pay it off so you have definite place to live. Then after that who really cares? You have a house, car, etc... If you don't have water for a while or you cant pay for gas, whatever. Just chill at home and get baked. Feel like having gas? Wanna buy some new thing? Get a job for a while. Fuck it.

Sure, if you browse just the same two sites all the time and play the same games. But we all know there are many more out there.

I have a friend who's in his second year of college and all he ever does is sit on his PC. He doesn't seem to resent it.

Re: This image contains truth

If you spend everyday on the pc and never leave the house then chances are youll still be living with your parents at age 30.

There was this guy on a forum that was a house bum (he was 19), he had no qualifications, no job experience, no skills of any sort to survive in this world. He was sick of it all and wanted to move away, and was asking how to do it.

Well he was an infant in the body of a young adult. He had no experience of the real world, except for what he read about it on the internet. If that's what you really want, then so be it. But I knew a while ago I didn't want the same boring as fuck lifestyle at 30 yrs old. I want to travel and do things in this world, not sit at the pc at my parents house for the next 40
years.

I'm not saying youhave to go to school to succeed, or that you "should" get a job, fuck no, just saying that it might not be a good idea to trap yourself into that basement dwelling lifestyle unless you wana wake up one day at the pc and think "is this it?"

zomg, why am I not living with my parents then?!

Quote:Well he was an infant in the body of a young adult. He had no experience of the real world, except for what he read about it on the internet.
What is this "real world" you speak of?

Well, I guess it does actually depend on your definition of "real world". I'm sure my "real world" looks very different to most people's. I know absolutely jack shit about all the normal stuff people my age are supposed to know about. Like bank stuff and taxes and insurance, and job interviews and getting up the same time every day and not being late for work... and dealing with a boss. I just find it lulzy how a lot of people seem to equate all that shit with "growing up"... like you're not grown up unless you have a job and pay taxes/insurance and suck up to someone you call "boss".

Anyway, if I didn't spend so much time in front of my computer, I would probably not have made this site, nor would I have figured out how to make money online... so it definitely has merit. Just depends on what you wanna do. If you're sick of it, go do something else... but don't force yourself to do something else just 'cause some twat said you should.

I don't see how any of what you said invalidates my point, but by all means live however you want, nowhere here did I say anybody "should" be doing anything, but I know that when there are people out there exploiting others and living like kings I'm not going to be some useless faggot sitting in front of his mothers pc wishing he had some power and influence in this world.

I actually blame school for the attitude you guys have here, it makes you associate the advice i gave with what teachers say, like "get a job". I want to experience real freedom in this life and not be a 40 year old in my mums basement.

Psycho you still working at that job because it sounds like you've gotten a little self righteous.

You're correct in what you said earlier psycho in that chances are they will be staying home depending on others but that doesn't apply to everybody and some people can get a job and just sit on their computer all day in their free time(looks at the users of 4chan, 2chan and mmo players).

Oh what you mean is having some pathetic position of power where people fool themselves into thinking they actually mean something when they are just nothing but a piece of the chain in society.

Man who here said they wanted any real power?
Before you get mad at me I somewhat agree that your right in your own way.
If people want something in life they will have to strive for it and stop whining when life doesn't suddenly open a door for them but not everybody has to force their ridiculous standards of success on others. Rolleyes
