RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Life Life Life..

Why is it so stressful.

Most people live til there 70, then we die. We leave back our sucess our money our fame. It always happens when you die.

You live, then you're over.

Life is a waste dont you think?

Meh, you can look at it that way, or just say fuck it and just live your life and enjoy it. Who cares if life is just a waste? If our existence makes no difference to the big picture. Or that you'll die then be quickly forgotten. You'll drive yourself crazy if you think of that. Just have fun in the present, don't look back to the past, and fuck worrying about the future. That's how I see it.

Thanks for reminding me about that. That thought is my enemy.

Sometimes when I think about what life is, in comparison to what society forces us to do in order to live a life in which we can be happy. I get very angry.

Think of this. An island paradise. Every morning you wake up and see the sunrise. You walk over to the lake. Catch yourself some fish. And enjoy the rest of the day. There is no territory. No property....

Then one day, Europeans sail to your Island paradise and tell you...hey....you need to work for 60 years so you can enjoy the same damned thing you enjoyed when you were a kid.

...anything in this picture seem wrong to you?

Well, I don't like the island metaphor, because it implies something unrealistic, but yes. When you truly 'experience' for lack of a better word life, compared to school's version... the only thing I learned from school is to know that compulsory school is horrible and it wasted years of my life.

I agree it does seem unrealistic...but it is a true story. All the Caribbean Islands went through exactly this.

Reminds me of the Bushmen in The Gods Must Be Crazy. Really great movie. Really great.

Life is worth what you put into it. Life can be a waste, if you take it for granted and just kind of take a spectator position. But if you actually use the cards you have in your hand and decide to play the game. Well...the outcome isn't what's important. But hopefully you enjoyed it.

Let's do the time warp again!

Even the people who have done really great things in their life have still ended up as a Hollywood movie. Yea, what the hell is the point of this crap?

LOL. Yeah, if you live a good life, help others fulfill whatever they want, treat nature perfectly, you go to heaven. If you live a bad life, you end up in a hollywood film.

Life is what you make of it. If you decide to work for 60 years, retire and die, that's all you'll get out of it. If you decide to ignore what people say and do what you really want to, that's what you'll get out of it. It might not be as easy or as comfortable as the first option, but you'll be doing what you really want to. You die eventually either way, so all the more reason to make the most of the time you have.

Look at it this way. Don't think in terms of "what you want to be if you grow up"... rather think like "who do you want to be when you're dead". You can't keep any of your material stuff, but the example you leave behind for others will always be there. It's like a ripple effect. You can only influence so many people in one lifetime, but each person you influence also influences other people.

A better way is to imagine you're going to die tomorrow. Is what you're doing right now really that important?

Life, and everything in it, is all we really have.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Life is basically a big chop suey of people placed on earth and sadly someone decided You'd have to work and to make it less enjoyable they would invent stupid laws against drugs etc when Alcohol can be MUCH worse, the world is built up of:

Extremely Shallow People
Slaves to work
Stereotypes
Ignored people

ETC

It sucks but oh well

The World seemed to all make sense but that sense seemed to slowly fade now in 11th grade

Not for me man. For me, life is always one big discovery after the next. I can't wait to meet all new people, every day. I love looking at the world in front of me through different angles. I love thinking. It's so fun.

I guess that is one way to look at it. When I am down about something, I usually tell myself there is not enough time to be sad because this grand adventure of life and exploration.

Life is a glorious light in the darkness of space!
I can't start to name it's wonder to me. What else in the universe is so fleeting? So short? And so shrouded in mystery? It's amazing.
