RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Quote:What this site is REALLY for is to make people's lives easier, surviving in school if they can't stand it.

That about sums it up Thumbsup
Actually, maybe I should make that more clear. It just sort of grew and now you can pretty much say it's about a lot of things, some of which are totally inaccurate.

Quote:What responsibility does the school have to allow positions that are offensive to the majority of those paying to support the school financially to be promoted with their resources? Next we can expect Islamic terrorists to say they have a right to form a club promoting the art and science of suicide bombing? Would you go for that?

Sure, having a right to kill people and having a right to choose whether or not you want to be forced to go to school are absolutely in the same category! ... not. Cuckoo

Quote:They've actually been looking for people who visit this site so they can confront us, so chances are I will tomorrow or sometime next week.

This site specifically? That's... interesting. Ooooh, my site is all infamous now. w00t. Laugh
Yeah. I should make a huge link somewhere that states the actual original purpose of this site...

This is a support site for students who can't stand being forced to go to school. We are not advocating or encouraging you to drop out, rebel or do anything in particular. What you do is your decision and yours alone, we can just provide support and information. What works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. That is all.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

I'd change it to "we are not encouraging dropping out... or not." - make it more clear that you as a person are capable of both options.

How's this one?

This is a support site for students who can't stand being forced to go to school. We are not telling you to drop out, rebel or do anything in particular. What you do is your decision and yours alone, we can just provide support and information for whatever choice you may make. What works for one person won't necessarily work for everyone. The point is: the choice is yours to make. And if, for whatever reason, other people refuse to let you make that choice, you will always find someone here willing to listen to you.

Actually, I must say, school kinda falls into a special category. You see, school's unique in the way that's it's compulsory to a degree. NO OTHER ORGANIZATION IS. People have a choice if they want to say, buy and eat Cadbury chocolate. A good example is the HS I went to. You see, we had to have the internet for class. But no, it wasn't free there. We had to PAY FOR IT. And, even worse, we had to pay 15c per megabyte of dl. That's the same we pay the big ISPs for going over our bandwidth limit. And guess what? If we didn't pay for it, we'd fail class. Like it? Fork over cash or fail class. Wonderful choice we have there isn't? Wtf

Salvaged posts:

Alucard483 Wrote:I learned a neat trick to day and did a search on which topic to post it in that would suit it best, this appeare to be it (note: I have read nothing but the first post). I have the same shit at my schools. All the CPUs are linked to a monitor computer. the only way (or so i previously thought) to get around this was to uninstal it. However this year we signed a contract saying we would not do that, but we still do. Recently they started cracking down HARD on that shit. So I learned a way around it. However you can no longer use the internet, so download your shit before hand or keep it on a thumb drive. Go to run and type CMD. Then type ipconfig /release. This nills your IP. In effect you just sut down ALL activity going in our out of your computer without breaking rules like "I will not uninstal ____ program"

Eidolon Wrote:But wouldn't that stop you from getting on the site?
You have no IP!

And if you did this, would it just revert back to the way it was after the computer is rebooted?
