RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Re: Nobody likes anything besides metal or punk or rock
I used to be into metal... especially black metal... when I was 14. Though I sometimes still listen to it, when I'm angry. I still listen to Melodic Metal though, because, duh, it's melodic. No screaming and the guitar solos don't sound the same every single time.
Nowadays I'm into classic, neo-classic, oldies, medieval (In Extremo, Subway to Sally, Corvus Corax), hints of German punk (Toten Hosen, Ärzte), though more because the texts are really funny... though usually its "goth" music (hell, I hate that definition)... industrial, electro, wave...
@SoulRiser:
If you like Assemblage 23 and Diary of Dreams, you can look up Angels&Agony, De/Vision, Diva Destruction, Noisuf-X, Snakeskin and Zombie Girl... (I have a lot more, but those are by my opinion the best and NOT in German)

Re: Nobody likes anything besides metal or punk or rock
The only metal that I find to be listenable is glam, power, prog, doom, stoner, and classic.
None of that growl-voiced death/black metal crap, thank you. Except for Children Of Bodom. They've had their moments.
What's kind of depressing to me is how the perception of heaviness will evolve. For example, back in the day bands like Zeppelin, Kiss, and Thin Lizzy would be considered metal. Now? Not so much. I'm going to be afraid if someone makes something even heavier than some of the crap out there.

Though I have no problem with people singing in German. Even though I have no clue what they're saying most of the time, it still sounds cool

You should figure out what they're singing... especially Rammstein... it's funny (in my opinion)... but maybe it's just my warped sense of humor.
If you don't mind German... well... a few other tipps (I could go on the whole day):
And One (hilarious texts), Deine Lakaien, Eisbrecher, Heimaterde, ASP and anything done/supported by Chris Pohl... he's one of the most important figures down here... at least in a certain music genre. XP

lulz. I looked up some translations of their songs once... I ended up regretting it, even though it was interesting. "Mein Teil" was such a cool song before I knew what it was really about...
I'll check out those other bands as soon as I get access to better internets again
