RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Do you fear it.

Actually, after having somebody die yesterday I'd like to add a little to my earlier statement. I don't fear my own death. But the deaths of those I like shake me and make me sad.

I fear it now, only because I want to do great things with the life granted to me. I have to fight humanities stupidity, and I still have a long way to go before I can die.

I disagree ,the body resorts to reptilian hardwiring in order to keep iself alive when naturally threatened.

So whether we feel fear towards death is sorta irrelevent.

I do agree with it. However there is a huge flaw in the above statement.

Re: Do you fear it.

I don't fear it.

People fear it because they don't want to leave what they're used to, they believe that once they leave, it's over.

I don't believe in reincarnation, nor do I believe (or deny) the afterlife. I want to live my current life as full as I can, and then discover what comes after the end. If there are pearly gates, then there are pearly gates. If not, then it's not. If I come back to earth as a horse, then I come back to earth as a horse.

I really don't think anything we do in our current life affects what happens after you die.

To Justin:

Fucking stop it. Seriously.

Thank you.

Re: Do you fear it.

Do I fear it? Not a bit. I actually wouldn't care much if it came for me right now. I won't walk into it without a good reason though.

The only thing I fear is the amount of pain that might come before it. It would also suck if I died in some random event that solved nothing. I'd rather die for something I believe in at the age of 15 than die of a random stroke as an 80 year old (doubt I'll live that long though).

I guess I fear how I would die as opposed to the actual concept of death itself. I don't see what the point is of fearing something we have no knowledge of. Unknown doesn't automatically mean "bad".

Ah Death, yes, yes I fear it...

I mean, I have no idea what could possibly happen AND my assumptions lead me to believe there will be NOTHING after death...

(Why, yes I did just bump this thread.)

Anything that ever happened or will... one condition, it has to be amazing.

Not only do I not fear it, I look forward to it in a morbid, strange way. Because there are so many different theories, and I want to find out which is the truth.

Re: Do you fear it.

I don't fear it, I want to die, and there are very few reasons that keep me from speeding things up. Once I become useless to the very few I give a fuck about, I won't waste my time on this world. The list has decreased very rapidly lately, so I'm preparing myself every day to just 'log out' when necessary.

Based upon years of research and experience I've formed some beliefs which don't fit any currently existing religion. For me, death is not as bad as it seems.

Problem, officer?

Re: Do you fear it.

The similiarities between certain different beliefs, and documented experiences of others that match some of mine. To put it different, a mix of the most realistic things from each religion, because nobody is totally right or totally wrong. It's just that unlike others I don't make up things that I cannot confirm.

Hmmm.

I do not know whether I should be afraid of, embrace, or feel indifferent towards something that I have neither experienced nor know anything about (beyond the physical aspect, at least).

Undecided.

Ditto. Also, no I do not. When I die, all my senses cease functioning. I am completely deprived of everything. I'm not in a 'state of nothingness', I simply 'aren't', if you get what I mean.
