RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

Doesn't it bother you that everyone seems to believe young age is infinitely superior to being old?

The irony in that is that most of the times, it's bitter adults who say that stuff.

Why is it better to be a kid? Because you can play outside and hang out? Because you're "free of influence," whatever that means?

It makes no sense to me. Naturally, I don't envision adulthood akin to a flowery field where peace and beauty abound, and I know full well what kind of shit one should expect once adulthood steps in, but even the worst problems one could face as an adult, I'd rather have those than be a child again.

What's your view on this?

Let go of all desire for the common good, and the good becomes common as grass.

Re: The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

If I had the chance of going right back to Primary School, right now, I'd do it so fucking hard. I mean, jesus you don't know what you have until you lose it. Blissful ignorance may not be better than uncomfortable truths, but I'd take the first over the second any day of the week.

Well, I dunno. Primary school sucked for me. All school sucked for me.

Re: The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

Well, I suppose the good memories of days gone by show up more than the bad memories... wow, I did a lot of embarrasing and stupid shit when I was in Primary School. And in Secondary School. And this year. Wow.

That does it, my lifelong wish is to build a time machine go BAACK IN TI-IME and punch my younger self in the face over and over and over

Personally the older I get the easier life has gotten. maybe a little busier after getting a job plus being a full time student but still easier.

Re: The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

My childhood was way better than my "adulthood" is being right now. Although, really, I'm not in what this society considers to be real adulthood yet, because I'm still in college.

I got picked on at school when I was 6-7, but home was great. And by home I do not mean my actual home, but the playground that was down the hill, and running around and going to other kids' houses and meeting new people. In between the times I was crying, I was deliriously happy. Joyous. Joyful, whatever that word is. *looks in thesaurus* Blithe, mirthful, peaceful, sunny.

Now I'm just depressed all the time. Every once in a while, I'm kind of enjoying something. But I don't think I'm ever really happy anymore.

I understand that some people had really shitty childhoods, but I didn't. It wasn't perfect, but I was happy. I'd love to go back to being 5 or 6 years old, when someone else provides for me, I don't have to get a job, and no one expects me to know anything. Also, my mom let me stay home from school whenever I wanted.

Christian bullshit, bullying, boring school, no friends and still trying to conform to others.

No thanks...

^ Yea Christianity, the easiest form of religion to dodge was actually a challenge to be freed from. I'm glad to be my age.

Lolthis. Also, I desire going back in time by a decade or two, however it's mainly to enjoy the entertainment of the 80's and 90's (as in, before the entertainment industry went down the pipes completely) but be able to truly appreciate it.

Time.

Re: The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

My childhood was brutal. I don't want to be the type to whine about it but my hardest years as an adult have been easy as pie compared to my life as a kid. The best day of my life was when I moved out of my parents' house. Seriously, even if I get cancer and waste away from a brutal slow death it'll still be better than my first 18 years. I didn't even really know how bad it was until I got away from it.

If you want to be a different fish, you've got to jump out of the school.

I remember the days before I developed allergies to grass pollen, made the Idea of going outside to play much more appealing, but instead I took up video games because of it.

I was a stupid kid with issues, but I still enjoyed my childhood. I was a lot more resilient back then. I often wish I could go back with the experience I have now and do it over again. Fix some mistakes. Break some fingers.

I would probably just make the same mistakes all over again.

Or by avoiding the mistakes I made, I'd be creating far worse ones.

Re: The Worshipping of Juvenilism.

Well, I enjoyed my 2 college years more than pretty much anything else ever. But life is pretty good right now too... I just need to get out more. Razz

Everything before college sucked in comparison to what I have now.

So I guess it differs from person to person. I guess people equate being younger with being healthier and more energetic or something. But most of that can probably be fixed somewhat as well.
