RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Ill do what I want
Well, I have decided that I am only going to do work and homework that I think might be useful for me in the future. Everything that I wont use and that im going to forget anyway im not going to do. Im tired of doing things that are pointless. I am willing to get detention, get suspended, and even expelled because. My parents are completely against anything other than going to school like homeschool, unschool, online school. But I dont care anymore, its my life and ill live it however i want to and there is nothing they can do about it.
In the future I dont plan on getting a very complex job, I just want an ordinary job like a factory worker or clerk or something. Most people these days spend too much of there time working about jobs and working.. it takes up to much of there life. People have forgotten that your whole life shouldnt be about getting a great job and everything it should be about... well just living the way you want to. You dont need tons and tons of money to live a great life, I would be content with an 11 dollar per hour job for the rest of my life.
Anyway, I hope some of this made sence, I think I may have typed it out to fast without thinking but Yeah this is what I have decided to do.
From the day of your birth, you have been living on borrowed time. You and I are both going to die at some point, and in the end there is not a thing you or I can do to change that.
In death, all we forfeit is the brief moment in time we call the present. You cannot lose anything of the future. The future you fear losing is imaginary.

Re: Ill do what I want
hey, i hear ya!
I think its great that you are forming opinions, but remember, as you get closer and closer to finishing school comletely, those couple of years are the years that you finally do get to do subjects that have some relevance.
subjects from 7-10 are sometimes a waste of time

That's pretty much what I'm doing too. Sort of. I don't need much money for regular stuff, it's only when I have some big plan or something that I need more, and that on its own will motivate me to get the money to pay for it. So yeah.
I wish you the best of luck dealing with people's reactions to your decision...
