RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Japan hit by a motherfucking 8.9 earthquake + tsunami
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-pacific-12709598
Quote:Japan's most powerful earthquake since records began has struck the north-east coast, triggering a massive tsunami.
Cars, ships and buildings were swept away by a wall of water after the 8.9-magnitude quake, which struck about 400km (250 miles) north-east of Tokyo.
A state of emergency has been declared at a nuclear power plant but officials said there were no radiation leaks.
The death toll is unclear, but police say 200 to 300 bodies have been found in the port city of Sendai.
At least 90 other people are reported to have died, and many more are unaccounted for.
The tremor, measured at 8.9 by the US Geological Survey, hit at 1446 local time (0546 GMT) at a depth of about 24km.
A tsunami warning was extended across the Pacific to North and South America.
The first waves have rolled thousands of miles to reach Hawaii, but were not expected to cause major damage.
Coastal areas in the Philippines, and other parts of the Pacific were evacuated ahead of the tsunami's expected arrival.
New Zealand downgraded its alert to a marine threat, meaning strong and unusual currents were expected.
'Train missing'
Strong waves hit Japan's Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, officials said, damaging dozens of coastal communities.
Kyodo news agency said a 10-metre wave (33ft) struck Sendai, which is in Miyagi.
Japan's NHK television showed a massive surge of debris-filled water sweeping away buildings, cars and ships and reaching far inland.
Motorists could be seen trying to speed away from the wall of water.
Farmland around Sendai was submerged and the waves pushed cars across the runway of the city's airport. Fires broke out in the city's centre.
In other developments:
* A passenger train was missing in one coastal area, and a ship carrying 100 people was swept away, police have told Japanese media
* Fire is engulfing swathes of coastland, including homes and buildings, at Kesennuma city in Miyagi prefecture
* A large fire erupted at the Cosmo oil refinery in Ichihara city in Chiba prefecture, with 100-ft (30m) flames roaring into the sky
* There were reports of about 20 people injured in Tokyo after the roof of a hall collapsed on to a graduation ceremony
Thousands of people are being evacuated from near the Fukushima power plant, where a state of emergency has been declared. The cooling system failed in one of its reactors when it shut down automatically because of the earthquake.
Prime Minister Naoto Kan said no radiation leaks at that power plant or any of the other reactors in the quake-hit zone had been detected.
In a televised address, he extended his sympathy to the victims of the disaster and said an emergency response headquarters had been set up.
The UN's nuclear agency said four nuclear power plants had shut down safely.
In Iwate prefecture, also near the epicentre, an official said it was difficult to gauge the extent of the destruction.
"Roads were badly damaged and cut off as the tsunami washed away debris, cars and many other things," said Hiroshi Sato, a disaster management official in Iwate.
Residents and workers in Tokyo rushed out of apartment buildings and office blocks and gathered in parks and open spaces as aftershocks continued to hit.
Many people in the Japanese capital said they had never felt such a powerful earthquake.
In central Tokyo, Jeffrey Balanag said he was stuck in his office in the Shiodome Sumitomo building because the elevators had stopped working.
"We're almost seasick from the constant rolling of the building," he told the BBC.
Bullet train services to northern Japan were halted and rapid transit in Tokyo was suspended, stranding many workers in the city centre.
About four million homes in and around Tokyo suffered power outages.
Goddamn, 8.8!? Jesus, I feel really fucking glad I am not in Japan right now. Or the pacific islands, since the wave could be as high as or higher than some of the islands holy fuck

Re: Japan hit by a motherfucking 8.9 earthquake + tsunami
This is really bad. The water levels near San Fransisco are going to rise super high, I don't know if any tsunamis will reach it though. What's really bad though, is the foreign exchange student that my best friend is hosting, is from Tokyo. She has no idea if her parents are alright currently, and didn't even know there had been an earthquake until I asked her if she knew.
I recently read a great book. It had all my favorite things. Murder, rape, torture, and a whole bunch of strange disturbing sexual preferences.

I heard about this on BBC News just this past midnight or so. Damn, they got boned...
On another note, some female Brit was translating for the male Japanese PM. I found that funny.

Re: Japan hit by a motherfucking 8.9 earthquake + tsunami
More crazy shit:
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiap ... n.nuclear/
Quote:Tokyo (CNN) -- Japanese authorities rushed Friday to cool down fears as well as radioactive temperatures inside a nuclear power plant rattled by Friday's mammoth earthquake, with the nation's prime minister planning a trip to personally inspect the atomic facility.
The Fukushima Daiichi nuclear reactor, located about 160 miles north of Tokyo, "remains at a high temperature" because it "cannot cool down," Chief Cabinet Secretary Yukio Edano told reporters.
Trade Minister Banri Kaieda said that a small radiation leak could occur at the plant, Japan's Kyodo News Agency reported early Saturday morning.
These and other issues caused by the 8.9-magnitude tremor prompted authorities to order an evacuation of people within 2 to 3 kilometers (1.2 to 1.8 miles) of the plant, a move Edano called "precautionary." Those farther away -- within 3 to 10 kilometers -- were asked to stay in their homes. The Kyodo news agency estimated the evacuation order directly affected about 3,000 people.
Moment of the Japan quake Quake causes utter destruction in Japan Massive whirlpool after Japan quake Witness deals with quake terror
That decision notwithstanding, Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan plans to head to the region. He will set off by helicopter around 6 a.m. Saturday to personally inspect the plant, according to Edano.
Earlier Friday, U.S. President Barack Obama said that Kan told him there had been no evidence so far of radiation leaks from nuclear reactors because of the earthquake and tsunami.
The Fukushima plant and three others were shut down after the quake, as Japan declared a state of atomic power emergency.
Cham Dallas, a professor of disaster management at the University of Georgia, said that it wouldn't be surprising if reactors get "both thermally hot and radioactively hot" after the reactors were shut down.
"When they shut down reactors, it takes a long time for them to go down," Dallas said. "It does not necessarily mean radioactive material got out of the reactor."
While authorities are "bracing for the scenario," the minister said, "At this moment, there is no danger to the environment."
Fire broke out at a second facility, the Onagawa plant, but crews put it out, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
The trouble at the Fukushima plant happened after the plant successfully shut down, Edano said. Crews had difficulty generating enough electricity to pump water into the facility to cool it, he said.
Janie Eudy told CNN that her husband, Joe, was working at the plant and was injured by falling and shattering glass when the quake struck. As he and others were planning to evacuate, at their managers' orders, tsunami waves struck and washed buildings from the nearby town past the plant.
"To me, it sounded like hell on earth," she said, adding that her husband ultimately escaped.
The government said earlier that it was sending senior officials and the defense force's Chemical Corps to the Fukushima power plant, according to the Kyodo News Agency.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said Friday on its website that its officials are "in full response mode," as they worked with Japanese authorities and monitor the situation.
Using Air Force planes, the U.S. government has sent over coolant for the Fukushima plant, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Friday.
"We're really deeply involved in trying to do as much as we can on behalf of the Japanese and on behalf of U.S. citizens," she said.
James Acton, a physicist who examined Japan's Kashiwazaki nuclear plant after a 2007 earthquake, told CNN that Japanese authorities are in race to cool down the Fukushima reactor.
"If they can't restore power to the plant (and cool the reactor), then there's the possibility of some sort of core meltdown," he said.

I remember watching this on the news earlier today. Then I had to go to my dad's and promptly fell asleep.
We might see a triple whammy. Flooding, earthquakes, and then a (possible) radiation crisis? GSC had better start work on S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Fukushima. Problem, Rebelnerd? :troll:
