RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

rabbis for lesbos

ok, so i was recently informed, that according to jewish law:

it is not bad to be gay

it is however punishable by death if you act on it and have sex with another man

it is not bad if you are lesbo

there are no punishments for doing anything really with another female cuz your not losing your virginity

i also just had a discussion with my mom, where she said that if her son came out of the closet (hypothetically of course, because our house is full of girls) she would be uncomfortable. then i asked her (realistically) how she'd feel if i said i was lesbo, and she said she'd have no problem if i was, cuz it wasnt technically wrong.....

i dont get it.....

That is the stupidest excuse ever. "It's bad just because my religion says so." - just think for yourself!

Re: rabbis for lesbos

That's pretty retarded even by the standards of people who say things like "being gay is immoral". Sexist too. "Oh, that's wrong, but this isn't, just because of this tiny little technicality". It totally ignores whatever the person's intentions were when they did whatever they did. Not that I think being gay is wrong either.

So... is it all about losing your virginity then? Would it be OK for a guy to have sex with a guy as long as he's had sex with a female before? Razz

Uhhhh.....what? That is ridiculous! And it makes no sense whatsoever! Religions have such weird customs, and people who follow these customs so closely really need to think.

I personally like thinking, it keeps me sane. Just because I follow religious custom doesn't mean I don't think, or don't even think about why I do the customs. There's been many times I have question this or that in my religion and I almost always can convince myself it is right. I mean wouldn't an all powerful being of infinite power and knowledge know what's best? Seriously.

Now on topic: That is pretty weird, I always thought the laws of morality should apply to everyone equally.

Meh. I'm not Jewish so it doesn't matter. But I do wonder what would happen if a guy got a sex change and had sex with another guy, would that count as being gay?

Re: rabbis for lesbos

That is a question that has been pondered by humanity for many years, and will probably never be answered.

And Wes, how do you know god gave this bible? Also, read the beginning Deuteronomy 13.

See what I am saying?

Re: rabbis for lesbos

So you shouldn't take away or add to the words God has said.

So? What does that have to do with anything? All this Chapter is about is how if someone is a prophet of other Gods, even if he produces miracles, you shouldn't follow him. And if someone tries to stray you away you should kill them.

Re: rabbis for lesbos

I am saying that reminds me of Jesus. The old testament was around before him. When we learnt this, in history, we were learning about the rise of Christianity, and this comparison popped into my head. Not trying to make you go against your faith or anything, but I was wondering how Christians responded to this myself.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Wrong. It means don't add or subtract from the commandments, not expounding upon their meaning.

but commentators do that, they decide how to follow the laws, which is like the same thing as writing them yourself.

Exactly. Holy books are not the word of god, they're written by men claiming to be writing the word of god.

It says to lead the people away from the God of Abraham and to other gods.

As far as I know Jesus never said he wanted you to go and believe in other gods and leave the true God behind.
I wonder how Jewish people who try to use that to discredit Christianity respond to that.

On an unrelated note: Sometimes I feel the need to consider myself Jewish because Jesus wasn't "Christian". He was very Jewish and all he really did was reaffirm the old teachings in my view. I believe he fulfilled the prophecy.

He, or rather his followers, also made it son not all laws were mandatory E.G. sacrifices and Kosher.

So really, he never lead people away, but his followers did.

God only commanded the Jewish people to be Kosher and Jesus's sacrifice made the need to sacrifice animals null.

That belief arose 300 years later with Paul; and up until that point, there were next to no differences between Judaism and Christianity.

Unlike the Twelve Apostles, there is no indication that Paul ever met Jesus prior to the latter's crucifixion.
