RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

Snuck out of School :)

Ok so there I was, the last 2 hour class was about to start and I had planned my escape. So I kindly wave by to my friends telling them Im going home. Knowing me they didn't have to ask. Laugh

I would sneak through the back and make my way down the steep hill. (sidewalk only extends to the front of the school.) Then I would run out of the view of the police car and school bus.

It was great, by the time I was at the hill I made sure to make my way down a spot with a lot of grass and bushes.

I sat there for a little while enjoying the breeze. There was a magical moment where I thought I could be there as long as I wanted while my classmates were under the dication of the bell.

But then I see one of these security guys driving in his little golf kart. He would have seen me if he looked up at the hill but he kept his eyes forward.

I began moving again before anyone else showed up. Ive never felt so happy walking home from school. Like I even tried recreating that song from lord of the rings

'Roads go ever on and on
Down from the door where they began
and on and on those roads shall go
then whither then, I can not say'

Who am I? That is irrelevant.
What am I here for? That will become apparent.
You can call me Apathy!

Re: Snuck out of School :)

I go to a relatively liberal school. There would be nothing to stop me if I just decided to walk away. The doors aren't locked, no one is standing by them. There are no security guards.

But having more than two unexcused missed periods per year results in expulsion, and most schools in the area are much more restrictive than my current one.

I admire your courage. The freedom must have been great.

Wtf How is this less restrictive then the other schools?

No, just the lingering fact that you'd probably get expelled if you did.

Re: Snuck out of School :)

oo You guys CAN'T leave school whenever you want? As long as it's before or after a class, you can just walk out at my school. ^^ I wish I went to your school, that'd make it so much more fun.

Re: Snuck out of School :)

I like ditching school, but not that much. It doesn't seem to be very fun. I'm always alone and my town is really boring.

Tips?

Buy some carbonated beverages and hang out under a bridge until it's time to sneak into a movie.

Heh, this sounds so awesome Razz
In my schools you just walk out and no one will bother to tell you anything. Unless a bodyguard/teacher that knows you sees you leave :/

Same here, I could up and saunter out of school if I got fed up enough by it. But it'd be too risky, what with unexplained absences and parental notification and such.
