RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Horror flick at school?

Apparently the school board in my town voted to let Wes Craven, who directed such horror flick such as "Scream" and "The Hills Have Eyes" use our old high school for scenes in his upcoming film, "25/8".

http://journalinquirer.com/articles/2008...032372.txt

To me, this isn't a big deal. I've never heard of Mr. Craven, and I've never seen any of his movies. However, the students at my school are pretty much going batshit over this. "Omigawd this is lyke sooo exciting I want to be an extra like our town's going to be famous!!!1" [sic].

Sorry, can't see any way to get worked up over this. What, those kids are going to go to the theaters, watch the movie, and yell out "I went to that school!!!" when the scene shows up?

Sadly, they probably will.

hey, wes craven's done some good movies. there's no need to go nuts over it, but it is kinda cool that they're filming so close to you.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Re: Horror flick at school?

My school gets filmed all the time. We're in this country's most popular soap opera. Why? Because our administration wants the money. Plus, because we're one of the few schools that look nice.

It's nice to see my school in a lot of of movies, but on the other hand, there are times when the crew takes up room in the parking lot. When they stand in the middle of an important hallway and make me late for class. But most of the time they film on weekends, and it's fun to see my school in movies.

Don't take life so seriously, it isn't permanent.

They filmed Back to the Future at my school, that's pretty much the only movie that's name I can remember. Apparently, its been used in several others as well.

Re: Horror flick at school?

About 5-6 kids I know from school were chosen as extras. They get 10 days off of school, with no punishment, and around $1,000 if they're above 16. But they have to be at the location of filming, be it in my town, or the other two towns, by 5:30 a.m.

Can't say this makes me anticipate the film but I will not deny that it is pretty cool.

"and around $1,000 if they're above 16."

God fucking damn it. Because, as we know, people under 16 are property and should always be treated as such. Blatant motherfucking ageism. Ranting

Re: Horror flick at school?

That's still fucking ridiculous. If they consented to it there shouldn't be a problem.

Yep.

I'd be pretty pissed if I were in the situation. I know that one of the kids involved is.

Re: Horror flick at school?

This is why "protecting" kids often never works. They got cheated out of a thousand dollars.

Re: Horror flick at school?

I'd bet that one of their lines of reasoning is "the children will not have the maturity depth to handle such large amounts of money".

Bullshit.
