RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Lockdowns

They are using this http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008 ... =australia as an excuse to imprison us at school.

They are looking for excuses to stop people truanting. Today there was a "lockdown" and they made everyone hide under their desks lmao. So basically if there is even the smallest threat in the school everyone hides under their desks like sitting ducks.

They are imprisoning us for real now! We literally cannot leave the school. The whole school is fenced up with spikes on top. They said they will keep the school locked everyday for a few months for our "safety". That's right, take away all our freedoms and treat us like 5 year olds for our "safety". By the way the school above is not mine.

PS Anyone in NSW have any lockdowns lately?

EDIT:

Is it me or is there something odd with a whole school being at the mercy of a few 14-16 year old guys with bats? A lot of you may disagree with me here but if laws on knives(im not talking gun control) were less restrictive then some people in the school could have stopped them much more easily. If these people can get samurai swords then I don't think that these laws do much good...

they been fenced up our school but now they are trying to fence in my brother and sisters school. I can tell you one thing if some threat came to our school me, and my sisters and brothers are smart enough not to listen to that bullshit.

Re: Lockdowns

yeah, they have those drills at our school every now and then. nobody really cares. but they have been making a lot of other security changes, like armoring the entrance to the main office and installing new cameras. and they've got some new thing where if you have a free period last you can leave early, but you have to have a special ID card to swipe so they can keep track of when you leave.

Re: Lockdowns

Lockdowns are one of the most counter fucking productive things ever. How many school shootings have their been? It's statistically unlikely, at best. And also, it oppresses the students even more by keeping a closer watch on them. And ALSO, if you don't want school shootings to happen in the first place, stop making school mandatory!

Re: Lockdowns

one time some guy got shot in the subdivision next to my school, before school started. when we got to school they had a lockdown. my question is, if they were worried enough to have a lockdown about it, why have us come to school in the first place?!

Yea, it doesn't really make sense, does it? Not to mention that keeping students under the desks just makes us easier targets...

Re: Lockdowns

lol. If somebody in my school ever had a gun and was going Columbine, fuck staying and cowering. I don't trust the police to do their job. At Columbine they sat on their ass on the perimeter as students got slaughtered. And it's fucking easy to break into a classroom. I'm going out the window. Fuck the rules and regulations.

Srsly. I would take the heaviest thing I could find, and throw it straight at that sucker. And I always keep my valuables on me, so I would end up not losing much.

(Holy crap, I am one sick fucker for thinking of that instead of the others that'd die. >_>)

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Re: Lockdowns

Well, you have to be somewhat careful if you're trying to take down somebody with a gun. They do, after all, have a gun.

But ya, if the school goes into lockdown Im going out the window to my car. Many of my teachers have openly said that that is the shityest idea in history. Bottle us up so its easier than shooting fish in a barrel. Safty my ass, thier making it easy.

Re: Lockdowns

I'd go out the window too, but I'd stay "under" the window until I was out of range... not just run across the outdoor field or whatever's out there, just in case they feel like shooting at me. Always use cover Smile

Re: Lockdowns

Of course. I'd actually try making my way around the building until I got to the parking lot. Better cover than most anything else. Otherwise, I'd have to make a mad dash across the fields surrounding the school on all sides.

Re: Lockdowns

But how are you going to escape if they locked the gates(just asking, I would escape as well)?

The funny thing is that if there were shooters in the school, they basically lock you in with them.

A funnier thing is that the merrylands high guys didn't have guns, just baseball bats and swords. I'm pretty sure a class of 20-25 can bring them down, instead of being dragged out of under the desks and then slaughtered.

The sad thing is we have all this security cameras and shit but the security is so lazy that kids sneak into school and kids sneak out of school easily. As for the fence we just climb over it.

Re: Lockdowns

I completely agree, if they have a permit, they are guaranteed by law the right to carry a firearm. On the question of who the cops should shoot, the answer is no one. There are enough ways to non-lethally incapacitate someone that a gun should never need to be used. I don't suggest tazers (to many deaths to soon after being tazered), but even if a gun was needed to be used you don't have to shoot to kill.

I was in the auto shop for a practice lockdown one time. It was stupid. We had to put some sort of signal paper in the window to say we're OK or whatever, but the only windows in the room were near the ceiling. Since this was the auto shop, to get to them, you needed to climb on top of a workbench and other equipment not meant for supporting a human being.

Soooooooo stupid.

o.o
At my school, we've only had one actual lockdown, which was last year, and it was because there were two kids (one of which was a former student) who were sorta close to the school and one of them had a gun. We were there for about an hour. T_T They were planning on releasing us soon too.

duh, i know a police officer who admitted they actually wait a few minutes before they go to crime scenes where shots are fired

but they have no problem harrassing people for speeding or expired tags, because when they cant get hurt, theyre all big and superior, but when they could die, theyre cowards

id just get a few of my friends and get out since my school isnt fenced
