RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Virtual Catalog

Today, my dean walked in the class to announce that our school website will be hosting a kind of virtual catalog. Oh maaan... Brickwall

As though that weren't enough, we were also given a sheet of paper (that included not just the password of a particular student, but the entire class) that our parents must sign as proof that they know. So I just can't hide it... I'm screwed :waah:

Re: Virtual Catalog

Ouch.

Obviously, that's going to make it a bitch to hide crappy marks.

Thankfully my school hasn't done something like that.

One question, though; what happens if you don't hand in the paper?

Re: Virtual Catalog

Wait, they're handing out everyone's passwords to everyone? What's the point having a password at all then?

Re: Virtual Catalog

That's just wrong. Protest it, I would. My own crap is private.

(It is not hard to fake signatures- but I don't suggest it.)

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Re: Virtual Catalog

If you go to a public school, what they're doing is completely unconstitutional.

Re: Virtual Catalog

The sheets were given only to our class, but we had to give them back, signed by our parents as confirmation. However, I'm sure that some parents made a few copies. Mine already did. No

On top of that, our parents have to go to a school council to confirm they did read the crap.... God I hate this school. None

BTW, I live in Romania, not the US. That might explain it... Rolleyes

Re: Virtual Catalog

I know that on parents&teachers conferences, a large sheet is sent around which has all the grades of each pupil in the class. Though the parents generally just look at their children's mark, they see the other ones too, I mean it's a large sheet and stuff. I wish there was some privacy law to protect me, but there isn't. It's still better than making the grades available on-line though.

Don't take life so seriously, it isn't permanent.

Re: Virtual Catalog

The school I attend has something similar, it's edline.net, each student and parent has an account and password to see our grades online.

<&Darthmat> Cory, you ecxell me in phpBB3, I will mail you a dollar.

Re: Virtual Catalog

Same here, they have had it for a while now. It's a program hosted off their servers to see grades and absences and everything. I live in the U.S, wish there was something I can do legally to make it go down, I hate the damn thing. That and this website turnitin.com. I HATE that thing, the teachers FORCE you to submit your papers to it and it checks it against every paper ever submitted to it for plagiarism. They are basically saying they don't trust us, at all, and with that I dubbed the site wedonttrustyou.com

You can't even refuse either, they just give you a Zero. There should be something against these types of things.
