RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

4th Amendment.

Mkayyy.

So, the 4th Amendment states that:

'The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.'

But,apparently, this doesn't apply to us in school.
Meaning, if teachers have a "hunch" that you've got a weed stash or something in your purse or backpack, they're allowed to search it without a search warrant.
Yah.
I think this is retarded considering the fact that we're kinda FORCED to go to school and when we get to school we have no choice but to give up our 4th amendment.
If school wansn't mandatory and I was going by choice, then by all means, search me....but because I'm not, they can keep their hands away from my shit.

I should protest.

Re: 4th Amendment.

Bravo!

And yes, school is in violation of loads of the amendments.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Contrary to popular belief, your rights do NOT disappear when you walk into a school.

Re: 4th Amendment.

We all should protest. No-where does it say the bill of rights doesn't apply to us, yet most schools are violating at least half of it. This shit shouldn't go on...

Yeah?
Well, maybe they don't disappear but they certain don't apply to us as soon as we step into the school.

they still apply, no matter what the school says. Your school may not respect your rights, but they still technically apply.

Re: 4th Amendment.

The arguement is that since your putting your shit in their locker, they therefore have a right to search it whenever they see fit. One way to get around this would be to not use the locker they give you. Try using those cheap sport packs.

They'll hold most of your books, the rest you can carry. Unless you're one of those insane people who carries 50 thousand binders around with them, then you're fucked. You should be allowed to bring it with you into class, because of how small it is. They usually don't care as long as it doesn't block the aisles. And as long as its on your back they can't search it, not unless they call the police on you. Even then you can still argue your case

Re: 4th Amendment.

Funny considering the fact that nobody uses the lockers because our school is too broke to afford ones that actually open.
-_-
It's frustrating.
&& they're allowed to search our bags and things.
I understand if they want to search they're locker, but they kinda search our own personal shit for no reason now.

Not that I'm against you but people don't know their rights and even if they do know, they don't even bother to defend them.

Yes they are. The UN convention on the rights of the child applies, and there's probably more stuff in the constitution and other laws. Never give up.

You're right. Here's the thing, school discourages you from being initiative and standing up for yourself. But you can't expect others to help you.

So read up on the legislature and fight for your rights. Sue your school if you must.

Re: 4th Amendment.

Don't take their crap. I don't. I've had the school ring police five times to search my bag. They tried a sixth time and the cops told them to go smoke some weed! I was so shocked the police said that and it was so funny because the phone was on speak and the whole class and the principle heard it. Best day of my primary career. Best one of my high school career you ask? I gotta say i don't know yet. But still you don't have to take their crap and don't let them search you. If they try to do it with force you have every right to call the police. FIGHT BACK Shooting Rocket Ranting Upset Stabhead

Re: 4th Amendment.

This brings up violations of our rights, i brought this up in previous forum, but nobody really responded. Then again i dont have the best rep around here. But yes my school searches people for the stupidest shit. They searched like a whole class once over some kid losing his gym shorts, and in the end, who had it, the idiot who complained about it.

whether or not bush said it doesn't matter. I'M saying it right now. the constitution is just a piece of paper that means jackshit unless there are enough people who want to defend what it says.

Then don't say that those words are from someone else, when they're not. Take full credit for them. I don't care how much of an asshole someone is, putting words in anothers mouth is retarded and immature.

Re: 4th Amendment.

School-wide searches are in fact, illegal, as is just searching on a hunch.
And yet nobody seems to care when they break that law.
I highly suggest to any of you to actually refuse a search without evidence. I'm highly curious of the results.

Re: 4th Amendment.

i don't think the searching of bags is really a violation of rights in many cases. people who are unaware of their rights will give their permission to police or teachers because they are intimidated by them.

cops when they 'suspect' you of something won't say, 'can i take a look in your car, by the way i have to ask because it's your right to say no', when they think they can use their power to intimidate them.

i think this is partly a case of people not knowing their rights or being afraid to use them.
