RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

how are we supposed to trust them?

on tuesday, my old teacher said to me: "Can you guess what I found." I knew what it was. I lost my diary at school. There is pages and pages of how I hate myself and hundreds and hundreds of pictures of skinny girls and daily records of calorie intake and w:h:b measurements. As well as h/w planning ect. Just a coping mechanism to me. I lost it because I was trying to be better, I was showing off that I knew the genitive case in latin (it was in the diary also) I had it out and then I guess I left it. I freaked and spent the whole next day looking for it. I thought nobody will open it they will just hand it in. But she opened it and "saw something which quite worried" her. And felt the need to embarass me further by showing another teacher. Then she said to me "We want to help you, but you've got to trust me," (pause a second: I had the most important exam of exam week began in less than 20 mins) how the hell could I trust her? How can you trust someone that plays with your mind like that? So I went to the exam and answer the first question and broke down in tears and put my head on the desk ignoring the rest. I hate her. Yea, I know what you mean. It's not their place to read something personal like a diary. I don't even know you and i want to punch them in the face.

I'm sorry your teacher embarrassed you like that. Considering that she read your private stuff, you don't have much reason to trust her. By reading your diary, she violated your privacy- you have every right to feel angry at her for that. She herself proved that you can't trust her.

You might not want to hear it, but your teacher is right that you should get help for your anorexia. Since you can't trust her, go to someone you can trust. I know the teacher made you so upset, but she does seem to want to help you out.

Basically, you have no reason to trust her, but do take her advice and get some help.
Oh, and feel better. Sadhug

She reads your personal diary, and then has the nerve to ask you to trust her? She obviously has no idea what she's talking about.

Re: how are we supposed to trust them?

I don't normally swear, but all I can say is fuck her. That is something you just don't do. I had a friend who went digging through my stuff and read my journal once, and I could never view her as a trustworthy person ever again. I wound up burning the thing and lost a lot of memories with it. I don't understand how anyone could do that with a clean conscience. It's filthy, selfish, rude, arrogant, and just.. wrong. I'm sorry your teacher is such a bitch.

Re: how are we supposed to trust them?

The next time she tells you to trust her, tell her it would help if she didn't read your personal effects, then immediately walk away. It'll work... or it will start a speech about how she only has your well being at heart and she only meant to do good... yeah right. Either way it will put her in her place.

Re: how are we supposed to trust them?

part 2:

in the first "get together" where she tore me to peices and which results in me getting D in my most important subject and that teacher (who is 69) having to sit me on her knee in the physics base to reassure me that it was only one day and the next one wouldn't be as bad. So the day she dropped the bombshell that she had (done what felt like strip me and seen everything) she said she'd have a chat with me and the other teacher on tuesday.

So tuesday came, and i hid! And it worked. Then Wednesday still paranoid, I hid. Thursday I thought she's forgotten! score! But no :( she found me. (and this time 40 mins before I got my art results, they matter to me and I was in peices and burst into tears and that results in the teacher trying to calm me down and point out that I couldn't get higher because I hadn't finished anything.) So took me down and they spoke at me, didn't take in a word or say one. Next thing I knew they said, maybe you sjould go and see the counsellor!!!!!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was too embarassed to explain that the ana unit hasn't discharged me as an outpatient (i broke the record I'm on 7 months) so now I have to go to her and she is nuts!
