RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Why was your day awful?

Well I'm pissed because:

A) I did not get accepted into my school ACT program (whatever the hell that stands for), and my favorite teacher in the school is teaching it. And they always take field trips. AND since my friend got In there's a very low chance I will have any classes with him.

B) I don't have any posts now. But it's not really a big deal since I have the same name.

Re: Why was your day awful?

Wow. Your brother smokes pot? I thought you already knew. Or was that someone else? Confused . Anyway, ask them that instead of being angry all the time, maybe they should have an intelligent talk with your brother, find out why he smokes and put a stop to it.

My parents turned the air conditioner up too high and being cold makes my knees and wrists hurt. They also insist that the house isn't cold. :/

Yeah, like when I got in trouble because I split a beer, my parents flipped at me, so I was like 'I could have been taking shots' then they shut up.

Re: Why was your day awful?

unrequitted love.

I am never going to recover I know it. Recovery for me is changing who I am. Of course I want to change, everyone wishes they were different that what got me here. This thing has taken my life and now I see what I've been missing on. Don't get my wrong I still want to be thinner. I can't help that, I just feel like these past 3 yrs have ruined my life. If you'd told me when I was 11, by the time you're 15 you'll be dying and if you don't die you will most likely lose teeth and you'll be plagued by UTIs and nothing will be able to reverse the damage you will cause, you'll probably never be able to have kids, you might never learn to drive, have sex or drink alcohol. I would said "whatever" does it even sound plausible that 11 year old is capable of making a decision that can change the rest of her life?

Re: Why was your day awful?

ChickenLeg, I was under the impression that you were male! Anyway, I feel your pain...and since I can't swallow pills, I have to chew them...Midol tastes positively horrid. Yuck Try taking a long, hot shower...that sometimes works for me.

Fragile-esteem, you haven't totally ruined your life. If you make the effort, you will recover- don't give up! It really is possible to change yourself, it just takes hard work...and you're obviously hard-working...how else would you have become a number one dancer? If you keep working at it, you will recover. I think you just expect some miracle out of yourself, some instant improvement. But these kinds of changes take time, so just try and be patient with yourself. Recovering from something as difficult as anorexia will take a while- the improvements will probably be very gradual. Don't try to fix everything in a day. Ease into the recovery, taking as much time as you need. Hug

Re: Why was your day awful?

Actually, it turned out to be a combination of that and a weird form of constipation.

Aand my day has turned awful again some time ago when I was told I wasn't needed to babysit this week. 3rd week in a row. 1st was okay, 2nd made me cheesed, but now I'm getting majorly pissed. It's not the kid, but being up early and the money that entices me. Not to mention I only work one day.

Goddammit, I need money.
