RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Why was your day awful?

Insulting someone to the point he/she stops doing something horrible will work. He/she will realize why the offender is doing what he/she's doing, work on ridding himself/herself of the problem, and eventually, completely rid himself/herself of said problem.
Also, why the hell would I want to make fragile-esteem feel good about slowly killing herself? That would be cruel.
And magic, she is sick. Anorexia and/or Bulemia is a psychological disease. It's like cancer: it keeps getting worse and worse until the person with the disease(s) dies. And I've drank espresso before. I didn't feel the need to force myself to vomit. And what you describe as "feeling sick" is "feeling the need to purge what she just consumed".

Noo No, it won't work. All insults do is undermine people's self-esteem. And I don't think you can be anorexic without having low self-esteem. By insulting fragile-esteem, you're only going to encourage her to continue starving herself. I'm sure she realizes that she has a problem and already feels bad about it. Instead of being so harsh and negative, why don't you try to be tactful and encouraging? Maybe then fragile will feel better about herself and won't have to resort to self starvation.

Right now, I could hurl a million insults at you. But I'm not going to, because doing that would only make you angry and less likely to listen to what I have to say.

to fragile-esteem: at least you were able to drink something without thinking about calories...i'm assuming that's an improvement. Hopefully you can progress to the point where you don't have to purge anymore.

fragile-esteem, I used to suffer from Bulimia (now i simply dont eat), and I know it's a struggle, and isn't too great, heh.
Don't listen to anyone who tries to pull you back - you can get through this. You seem to have a really sweet personality, I really like seeing you around here. Really WELL DONE for not thinking about calories! We're here for you, don't worry about BobManPerson. Be safe. xx

The day didn't even start well yet, and still, life found a way to fuck with me in a very hard way.
I am a failure, I always fail, I always suck at everything. And the people who are against me always get the best stuff ever.

Lost? I hope you just mean temporarily. Any true friend will eventually be willing to forgive your mistakes, even if they're mad at you right now.

I was confused enough as it is with the recent break up with my ex.
Just add this onto the list of things I have to sort out when I'm up to it.

Renagade, I thought your mom was a nurse?! She's a pretty useless nurse if she doesn't buy you medicine. A friend of mine had the same problem...it turned out she was having an allergic reaction or something, and they had to do surgery on her. seriously, you need to get to a real doctor.

Apples? Try prunes. Any dried fruit for that matter, but prunes (and beans too) make me shit a lot.

Re: Why was your day awful?

Awfully embarassing.

So we're back in Michigan for a week as the guests of honor back at the camp we used to live/work at. It's kind of political for my Mom and the people who passively-aggressively got her to quit (rather than firing her) but I'm just glad to see old friends and make snide remarks about the people who took over the camp.

I borrowed a golf cart from [Ted]. Ted used to be our small town soccar coach and school board teacher back at my old christian school. Now he works at the camp. I buttered him up and got a golf cart to go around and see my old third grade sweetheart and old classmates (it's farm country). Well some friends of mine came down to camp to check in on me and we drove around.

Then we wanted to go into town. There was some debate over where we wanted to go. Driving the golf cart into the small local town was mentioned. That was followed by an immediate, "Let's do it!" but then some debate over whether that was allowed or not. I decided it wasn't kosher but it wouldn't be a big deal so we were off.

So when we come out of the pizza parlor there is an angry college summer staffer staring at us with her backup in a minivan. She has this look on her face that says, "I'd be pissed if I weren't too christian to be angry with you,". So we got escorted back to the premises while someone stayed there to try and figure out how to tow it back to the camp.

So we get back to where I'm staying and my friends come up with fake names and are guilt-tripped like crazy. I'm a little embarassed but I know I'll look back and laugh later so I don't see the point in waiting until later to laugh about the situation. I called up the guy who had the golf cart (an old friend of mine who dated my babysitter and played Mario Cart with me when I was 12). And we laughed. I called up another friend who kind of isn't like around here for being insubordinate (but is of course loved by others for that exact quality about her) and she sighed and I could tell she was grinning and she was like, "Oh...you're that kid now, are you?"

Well...people will get over it. Some people are just laughing about it. But I'm officially a bad apple in an awkward situation.

The adventures of small town life...

Let's do the time warp again!
