RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Stupid quote?

Forgive me if I put this in the wrong section but I wasn't sure where else to put it. Anyway this quote imo deserves it's own thread as I have seen it show up so much on peoples facebook profiles on there Activities and Interests part or something like that. The quote is:

"I'm selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don't deserve me at my best." — Marilyn Monroe

I really think this is stupid as if for example someones worst is abusing the crap out of you or something like that then how do you not deserve that person because you can't handle there worst? I just can't see how people can take this quote seriously.

Re: Stupid quote?

I can honestly say I've thought about that too.

But what can you expect; it's Facebook. A bunch of people are going to think they're being "deep" or "insightful" by posting famous quotes.

Song quotes like that piss me off too.
"And then you get to watch her leave out the window, guess that's why they call it window pain/pane."
1. That line is corny and it sucks.
2. Just because you think you can relate to it doesn't mean that you should post it on Facebook for everyone to see and roll their eyes at.

Sorry for the post, just needed to get that off my chest.

Re: Stupid quote?

Or when people take one listen of "Airplanes" or something, and decide that the song was written for them because OMG THEY TOO FEEL LIKE THEY'VE LEFT THEIR TRUE SELF BEHIND!!!!111, and go about vomiting the lyrics absolutely everywhere.

I mean you look at the most recent update on their blog and there it is. Or they comment on some totally unrelated thing, like you look at this chain of posts on their friend's facebook page and out of nowhere the idiot posts "I wish that airplanes in the night sky were shooting stars! <3"

Out of fucking nowhere. Your friend will not appreciate that shit, you moron, oh wait they just posted the next line of lyrics on your page 5 minutes later. Like a fucking ping pong match or something.

Take that shit outside.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

Re: Stupid quote?

Seems like even idiots use quotes to justify their unwarranted self importance.

Oh well..
