RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

"People say that our youth is a test, but they don't realize that any day now could be our last. They need to wake up and realize that every single day of life is important. God gave us these lives which should be used for what we wish. I'd much prefer to go to church with my days rather than something as pointless as school."
is that what they tell people at church these days? god gave you life so that you can use it for WHAT YOU WISH? are you fucking KIDDING me?? your entire life is a fucking test of whether or not you are worthy of heaven, why didn't god send you there is the first place? it's not just your youth, your entire life is nothing but a fucking test, a test of your obedience to god.

I miss the days where the youth worked side-by-side with adults in the business world, where 14 year-old kids ran shops and owned mines and ferried people across a bay.
If they were capable of that, why have adults in what we assume is a "modern" society refuse to acknowledge this? Are we now in need of a youth rights movement?

I'm a little surprised that you are at this site and don't know the answer to that question.
Hello, traveler.
This is an ancient account I have not used in a long time. My views have changed much in the intervening months and years.
Nonetheless, I refuse to clean it up. Pretending that I've held my current views since the beginning of time is what we in the industry call a lie. Asking people to do so contributes to moralistic self-loathing. "See, those people have nothing damning! I do! I'm truly vile!"
Because you can never be a good person with a single blemish on the moral record, I thought that simply entertaining some thoughts made me irredeemable. Though I don't care for his writing style, William Faulkner presents a good counterexample. He went from being a typical Southern racist to supporting the civil rights movement. These days we'd yell at him for that, probably.
People are allowed to change their views.
Nevertheless, this period of my life has informed some of how I am today. In good ways and bad ways. To purge it would be to do a disservice to history. Perhaps it will not make anyone sympathetic, but it may help someone understand.
If, after reading all this, you still decide to use the post above as evidence that I am evil today, ask yourself if you have never disagreed with the moral code you now follow. In all likelihood you did, at some point. If some questions are verboten, and the answer is "how dare you ask that," don't expect your ideological opponents to ever change their minds.
you know you should tell the teacher to stop being stupid and get a better job in life then teach annoying kids and to stop messing with you or else you will go downtown.

I know I could manage a Wal-Mart. I'd need about five hours of training, and I'd be set xD

Interesting statament this always is. Absolutely lacking in substance. No contribution of any sort. Simply an opinion that has the other side say exactly the same thing.
Why oh why should we possibly ever care when you don't care and thus no longer have any need of our opinions?
So welcome. And we don't care to have you here..care that we dont have you here...having not cared about you carimg about not...You get the picture.(because I dont)
Yeah, we're kinda like a bar that attracts some people but we're the "regulars", which is kinda sad. Imagine if there were more than 100 people on at the same time. Then again, every part would get updated, etc.
Wouldn't try advertising this site on bigger forums. Have a feeling we'll get a bunch of trolls like Newgrounds, GTAForums, etc.
Introducing yourself with a rude statement is generally a bad sign. Just because its the internet doesnt mean there is sense of decorum. Actually its worse because being a jerk inline is either a sign of purposefully being a jerk for personal lulz, or your actually a jerk who somehow thinks people online care abbout your opinion(unfortunately this doesnt apply to the web. It might have effect in the real life, but nobody takes a jerk seriously on the web. And since the web isnt physical in its existence, when a community ignores you, you pretty much have no influence among them no matter how much a jerk you act like).
So kids. Dont be uncivilized brutes on the web, cause nobody can hear you thumping your chest. All you'll manage to do is bruise yourself(and your inflated ego).
Fragging true you've said. Each and everyday is equally important, so simply Proximitymine each and everyone who approaches you saying that. Sure, its true that these years are ones where you have the brain capacity to learn the most, but fuck, that does not mean that we still cannot learn when we're older.
If we can only learn when we are young, then how did people who are not that young anymore learn how to use computers and advanced functions in any device? How can they adapt to changes if one cannot learn something when they are older?
Anyways, no one should mind people/parents/teachers/fucking anyone who says that youth are the best times of the life (You won't believe that this saying is in all countries. I'm in India and here too, people say that!) because essentially they are saying that for them grass is greener on the other side, or they haven't realised that times have changed (maybe both).
I may be saying the same thing (about greener grass, I guess) but true fact is they are not expected to be like a sponge and soak up everything they shove into our brain. And even sponges cannot keep absorbing everything and has a limit. Does anyone realise it? Hell no they don't, and all we have is friends to understand our problems. (And then parents whine about their kids not coming to them for their problems) If schools are supposed to be places where kids learn at adequate amounts, then why can't they do that? Rather than doing that, they make 3-4 classes easy consecutively, and suddenly passing one class requires their best. Seriously, What The Fuck?!
And almost everyone is right. Does anyone realise that we can die any moment? I'm younger than my parents, and still I realise that I can die while typing this, and any of you can die while reading this. That means that we should LIVE each and every moment rather than 'preparing'. And only one girl in my class of 50 realises this. Are there chances that our parents know about this...cuz my parents don't, I guess. Mom sure doesn't.
Really, I hope that everyone goes easy on everyone. Yep, you know what I mean.

Remember that guy in Ba Sing Se who says "You don't know what I had to do to get this house"... that's basically suburbia. Whenever somebody says "real world" I think of the fact that gigantic mega-companies which provide salaries sufficient for $500K houses are almost unequivocally run by satan himself, but it is hard to get a "rebellious" son or daughter on board with that.

This is a really good thread, similar to the parent entitlement thread. I give it 5 stars.
I mean "we are here as children to prepare for life?" We are obviously not living life, we are just existing and not living if we throw it all away on useless crap that harms us, on being here just to gain people's approval; on ignoring what nature made us to be and instead being locked up than released only to prepare for being locked up again. We than enter the so called real world, and are full of questionable beliefs that wouldn't really make sense once you really process it.
Only when we get older, we start to think about things we haven't done. Why don't adults do it, too? Living their childhood and teenage instead of going to school? I stay very, very, very sad whan I think about it. I'm 13->14 and I'm wasting my teenage sitten on a unconfortable chair, obeying unhappy adults who want we have happy lifes doing the same thing that made them unhappy.
My parents indirectily say that only schooled people are happy. They are super schooled and I know any of them is truely happy.
You know, the idea that youth is a test is sort of tossed around to tell people "you fail!"
The idea that youth is the best time of people's lives is there to infantilize fun and to call who's been cheated of a happy childhood ungrateful.
And the simultaneous holding of those beliefs is done by flakwagons who dismiss perfectly fine and normal desires and behaviors as "those kids trying to grow up too quickly" I'm surprised they haven't cried for a law to print a recommended age on makeup containers, I mean it's no better than saying their seventeen-year-old isn't old enough to drive.

I don't know why so many people propagate "pre-life" process that has no value itself is ludicrous, but it's also a major claim behind forcing people to make school the center of their life, even if they aren't getting much out of it.
I also have always hated the claim by adults that "youth are the best years of your life."
"HIGH SCHOOL is the best years of your life" is obviously equally or more problematic...
Hidden stuff:
"CONSENSUAL incest is not wrong. (Abuse victims: being abused by a relative does not make it wrong for others to have consensual incest, any more than rape by a stranger makes all sex wrong. Sex and assault/molestation are two different things.) An aversion became common in humans that aided in population growth as one disease couldn't wipe out the human race. That's not a problem anymore.
Consensual incest is very common. You know people who have been involved, whether you know it or not.
There is no rational reason for keeping laws or taboos against consensual
incest that is consistently applied to other relationships. Personal disgust or religion is only a reason why one person would not want to personally engage in what I call consanguinamory, not why someone else shouldn't do it. An adult should be free to share love, sex, residence, and marriage with ANY consenting adults. Youthful experimentation between close relatives close in age is not uncommon, and there are more people than you'd think out there who are in lifelong healthy, happy relationships with a close relative. It isn't for everyone, but we're not all going to want to have each others' love lives, now are we? If someone thinks YOUR love life is disgusting, should you be thrown in prison?
Some people try to justify their prejudice against consanguineous sex and
marriage by being part-time eugenicists and saying that such relationships inevitably lead to “mutant” or “deformed” babies. This argument can be refuted on several fronts. 1. Some consanguineous relationships involve only people of the same gender. 2. Not all mixed-gender relationships birth biological children. 3. Most births to consanguineous parents do not produce children with significant birth defects or other genetic problems; while births to other parents do sometimes have birth defects. 4. We don’t prevent other people from marrying or deny them their reproductive rights based on increased odds of passing along a genetic problem or inherited disease. It is true that in general, children born to consanguineous parents have an increased chance of these problems than those born to nonconsanguineous parents, but the odds are still minimal. Unless someone is willing to deny reproductive rights and medical privacy to others and force everyone to take genetic tests and bar carriers and the congenitally disabled and women over 35 from having children, then equal protection principles prevent this from being a justification to bar this freedom of association and freedom to marry.
Some say "Your sibling should not be your lover." That is not a reason. It begs the question. Many people have many relationships that have more than one aspect. Some women say their sister is their best friend. Why can’t their sister be a wife, too?
Some say “There is a power differential.” This applies least of all to siblings or cousins who are close in age, but even where the power differential exists, it is not a justification for denying this freedom to sex or to marry. There is a power differential in just about any relationship, sometimes an enormous power differential. To question if consent is truly possible in these cases is insulting and demeaning.
Some say “There are so many people outside of your family." There are plenty of people within one’s own race, too, but that is no reason to ban interracial marriage. So, this isn't a good reason either. Let consenting adults love each other the way they want!"-Keith Pullman
