RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Dress code
I hate the dress code it is so unfair boys have to tuckin there shirts but girls don't. i just don't get it. what is the problem with having small holes in your jeans or wearing flip flops. How does it destract the students? i think its just so they have another thing to control us.

Re: Dress code
Yes, I particularly hate when the dresscode is sexist. Like that girls can have piercings but boys can't.

Re: Dress code
Dress codes have proven to be generally inefficient and useless in terms of their given purpose. They do not reduce 'classroom distraction', promote equality and good relations between students, or strengthen school pride. That and they're typically (if not always) stupid. Guys can wear pants, but not shorts, and girls can wear neither? It's forcing clothing on people who may or may not have different preferences. They are going to be disgruntled, distracted, and most importantly, irritable about their situation.

This combined with your avatar made me lol.
Anyway, fuck dress codes. They are the dumbest fucking things ever. They don't do shit to alleviate bullying and they piss everyone off. Waste of goddamn time.

Having a few restrictions is infinitely better than being forced to wear horrible shit. Apparently our school does it "so that we are all one family." Jesus, if these guys were my actual family I'd kill myself

Re: Dress code
It must suck to have a "Random Boner" moment in class and then the Teacher calls you to the board and your Slong is sticking out all because you have to tuck your shirt in your pants so it is in full view.

I only, and I mean only, ever tuck my shirt in when I'm airsofting. You wanna be Mil-Sim? Then tuck your damn shirt in.
Any other time, fuck it. I don't care. I don't like tucking my shirt in and never do in any other situation.

Re: Dress code
About the "tuck in shirt" thing: A friend of mine had this rule at his school because the administrators said that you could hide guns too easily if it was untucked. One day, outside of school, my friend saw his principal, put a pellet gun in this waistband and tucked in his shirt and began talking to him for about 15 minutes. He then said, "I only came to talk to you to make a point." He then pulled the gun out of his pants.

I'm surprised there wasn't a major freak out.

My friend got arrested for pointing a toy gun at his sister.

What a bitch. ^
Me and my sister got into a airsoft gun fight once. She pulled out a shotgun, so I grabbed my pistol and we had an airsoft battle in my basement. Broke a lot of shit. Shit was like the boondocks. It wasn't planned or fun though, we were genuinely mad at each other.

But then wouldn't every shot hit? So if they were at point blank, how did shit get broken? Did they close their eyes and shoot wildly at each other?

How small is your basement?

Re: Dress code
The cops showed up at school and the VP had to deal with it.
He was rather flustered about the whole thing.
Funny thing was that morning, my friend was on the phone all freaked out, we asked him what was up and he answered the cops are at my house.
MY GOD misunderstandings are great.

Re: Dress code
The cops had to arrest him simply because if there's a gun thing I believe they actually have to investigate.
We asked him if a day in the slammer had made my friend a hardened criminal.
Anyway, enough derailment by me.

Re: Dress code
The old Bethel Park airsoft field was about 250 yards away from an elementary school, and 100 yards away from the school's sports grounds. The looks I got from little kids and their parents (games were only on weekends) when walking across the sports grounds going to and from games in the woods while wearing full German army fatigues, chest rig, balaclava, and boots while carrying a gun case were nothing if not priceless. You would have thought I was covered in blood instead of dirt and holding a butcher's knife instead of a gun case.

Back on subject... I have uniforms. They fail.
But they still put some restrictions on 'free dress' day. (I don't know how they come to THAT)

Re: Dress code
In Australia every public school has to wear uniforms. If there is any uniform breach, we get after school detentions. It's really fun... I bet if you got a birdseye view of our school, it would look like a herd of blue sheep.
Every child is born a genius. 9,999 out of every 10,000 are swiftly, inadvertently, de-geniused by grown-ups.
