RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Electronica
I can't believe there isn't a stickied thread for the best genre of music ever.
I mostly like downtempo, ambient, goa, and general trance. Digitally Imported is the best internet radio station for general electronica.
Also from Urban Dictionary:
trance 1985 up, 0 down
By far the best form of music that exists. A recent study showed that if a population is divided into musical preference, those who claim a strong allegiance to trance have the highest average IQ.
Trance is the music of the genius-generation.

Re: Electronica
I like glam metal.
But electronica is cool and has some nice beats, it just brings too much weird robotics into my music, I like something more... organic and alive sounding.

I like electronic. Hybrid, Infected Mushroom, Carbon Based Lifeforms and the Prodigy are among the best as far as I'm concerned.

I like Tiesto, Infected Mushroom and Assemblage 23. I don't know of all that many others though. But I'd have to say I like Assemblage the most.

We used to have a radio station here in the ATX that played commercial dance/eurodance during the day and then came on with live sets/real trance during the night. Guess what happened to it? They slowly started playing hip-hop/r&b bullshit...today it's a typical hip-hop station. Epic Fail is Epic.

Arcadia Magik has one of the best beginnings of all electronic songs, but sadly it diverges into mediocrity :(
A lot of Prometheus' stuff is great though I forgot to mention them...

Paul Van Dyk (Let go, Nothing but you, Crush, Techno Energy)
Tiesto (Traffic)
Paul Okenfold (Ready steady Go, Southern Sun)
Tiesto is So-so IMO <.<
Paul Van Dyk is A-W-E-S-O-M-E
As far as I know, I love all of his beats, no exceptions.

Wolfy boy introduced me to Aphex Twin, so I do enjoy a bit of that. I also like Crystal Castles and Para One's soundtrack to Water Lilies. That's about it really.

Re: Electronica
Electronica is not the best music genre out there. I'm not saying what genres are better, and I'm not saying that it's bad, either, because that is up to each individual person to decide. I know that you were joking when you posted it, but really? Wouldn't be too surprised if people started posting "METAL IS SO HXC" & the like just to get back at this post. Like electronica? - good for you. There are already music threads where you can comment about & even vote on how much you like it.
lawl, this sounds like a hater comment even to me. >.< Honestly though, I just wanted to voice my opinion. No insults intended.

Re: Electronica
IDM seems promising, Trance can be alright... the problem I have with most electronica is that it's not progressive enough. The same shit over and over again bores me.

Idk like dubstep cuz it seems like its just like other electronica popified. Some dubstep is still good tho, but nothing by popular artists like Skrillex. At least none I've heard yet.

Everyone here can agree that power electronics isn't music so much as a guy ranting about shit with static in the background. Industrial isn't really music either although it is much better than power electronics
