RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

New Computer

I've always wanted to have a good computer, so I did some research and learned how to build one on my own. It's much cheaper! That new game Far Cry 2 looks sweet, and I'm hoping I can run it well Biggrin Here are the parts I purchased:

CPU: Q6600 Quad-Core Processor 2.4 Ghz

Motherboard: EVGA 680i 122-CK-NF68-A1 LGA 775

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB

Graphics Card: Zotac 8800GT AMP! O/C Edition

Memory: 4 GB G.SKILL DDR2 800

Power Supply: PC Power and Cooling 750 Watt

Case: Antec Gamer Nine Hundred

CPU Cooler: Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro

Mouse: Logitech G7 Wireless

Keyboard: Saitek PZ30AU Eclipse

I've already got a 19" monitor. I bought all these parts brand new off Newegg.com for about $1100. There was about $150 in rebates so it actually only cost about $950. I'll post some pics when it's all done. Razz

Cool! God luck!

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Re: New Computer

I'm so fucking jealous.
I always get stuck with my crappy PC that can't even handle PCIEX16 cards.

And always when I get a bit of money my parents take it away. :<_<:

Re: New Computer

I overclocked the cpu to 3.2Ghz stable but one of the cores failed at 3.3 :( I'm going to leave it at 3.0.

I have a Geforce 7600GT if anyone wants it.

Re: New Computer

Newegg.com is awesome! I remember when I started looking at buying my own computer...it was maybe 2 months ago. Build your own, you'll learn a lot. I looked at some Alienware computers for $3000 and I bet mine would perform at their level.

I heard some people run 280GTX's in 3-way SLI which is just stupid. Each one of those video cards is like $600. If you learn how to tweak a game, you can get the same quality as "Ultra High" while still getting a great frame rate. Some settings don't affect visuals at all, but they affect performance. $1800 spent on 3 video cards....what a waste.

Hahaha, yeah, I know. 4 908509988 GTXFXNTGTSXFSLOLROFLs at like 6000 dollars a piece, and it yields like a 5% increase over just getting a 9800GTX. xD

And newegg is the best. Better than those cumdumpsters at Tigerdirect...
