RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

A link called me an architect and said these stuffs:
Quote:Architects need not be thought of as only interested in drawing blueprints for buildings or roads or bridges. They are the master designers of all kinds of theoretical systems, including school curricula, corporate strategies, and new technologies. For Architects, the world exists primarily to be analyzed, understood, explained - and re-designed.
So there's a small chance that I end up changing the school system lol.
Then again, Jungian psychology is outdated.

Re: Jung/Briggs-Meyers Test

Jungian psychology isn't exactly outdated -- certainly not the functions identified in MBTI. He addressed a lot of things not generally addressed by modern psychology, for example, individuation, the psyche's structure, projection of unconscious contents/functions onto others, etc. There's a neural basis for the MBTI and those concepts -- but Jung is pretty much ignored by reductionistic mainstream academia.

Can't remember where I found the info, but apparently IN** people are only like 20% of the human population or something.

Maybe not 20, but it was a small percentage compared to the others.

Re: Jung/Briggs-Meyers Test

The results of a single test aren't necessarily accurate, but the basis of Jung's theory of mental functions is very much a description of parts of the psyche.

(I used to score INTP but I'm very much an INTJ with ADD and a mental energy deficit.)

Keep in mind that everyone has all of these functions -- some are just inferior and take more effort to develop. Jung called this process "individuation." Most people operate with 1, 2 or 3 of the 8 possible functions in fully conscious awareness, even later in life. But they are all there from the beginning, often becoming the parts of one's self one is most uncomfortable with. Developing them gives rise to a "broadening and deepening" of consciousness.

Re: Jung/Briggs-Meyers Test

Most psychologists think it's non-sense.

Also, for most of the questions my true answer would be "What in the fucking fuck do either of these choices even mean?" And for all the other questions, my answer would be "both" or "neither".

Edit: There are different tests. The one I took, for some stupid class, wasn't yes/no questions, it was "do you prefer this or that" or "do you do this or that" or "are you more this or that", and what was annoying about most of the questions is that the choices weren't opposites. And sometimes I didn't even know what they were saying, even though I knew all the individual words.

Re: Jung/Briggs-Meyers Test

Yeah, That part did kind of annoy me. There were alot of them where I would have to sit and contemplate what it was trying to say and how exactly it applied to me.
I have found it very helpful though. It describes, with rather shocking accuracy parts of my personality that I had never really recognized before. I've learned alot about myself because if it. It helps me judge my thoughts and actions better.

I did the test and read the description of "myself", as required for the class, and the description of whatever test result I got was nothing like me. I read all the different descriptions and none of them described me.

Not really. They merely describe personality traits, not career options. They do have a list of possible careers for each type, and it sort of applies to me.

Actually, I'm an INFP/TP, and it fits me to a tee, almost.

Absentinsomniac didn't say anything about career options. "Going far" doesn't specifically mean career.

Not exactly. I don't particularly like the introverted part of mine. It's true but I don't like it.
Alot of the others sound like they would suck too but that's probably just my opinion.

Re: Jung/Briggs-Meyers Test

I dun know. When I read mine I was like "Fuck yeah, I'm a goddamn genius. Only 1% of the population is like me, and apparently I am good at devising plans and making systems and working vigorously." Sure, that's pretty much how I think of myself, but I'm not so sure about how accurate it is. Also, it's not hard to figure out how it works.

Question: Do you like to hang out with friends a lot?
A: no
B: yes
C: no
D: yes

If you consistently pick no, your introverted, otherwise, your extroverted. Not that complex, really. Same goes for the other letters. Yeah, the questions vary, but not by far.

So yeah, it's semi-accurate, but it's my opinion that the traits are more or less positive. I haven't really read many negative personality traits, IIRC.
