RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Re: Happy Camper Tells All

I'm just glad HC is back. I hate to rip off The Big Lebowski, but somehow, just knowing she's out there somewhere is a good, good thing.

Now, questions:
1. Who is your favorite BSG character, and why?
2. Who would you like to see Jell-o wrestle?
3. Assuming no headwind, what the the maximum airspeed of an unladen European swallow? What is the average airspeed?

I got nothin'.

Have you seen Hard Candy?

Thoughts on it?

Quote:Who is your favorite BSG character, and why?

This is tough. I really love President Rosalin even though I don’t always agree with her actions. Hell, that’s half the reason I love her. Cally, I really love. I loved Specialist Tyrol until he became depressed and moody. He’s a real blue-collar kind of guy but with a sense of humor. I loved that about him.

And Baltar…oh, Baltar. Especially in the earlier seasons. He was a fascinating fucked up man.

Quote:Who would you like to see Jell-o wrestle?

Lucy Liu and hmm…I’m trying to think of my top cuties list. While I love Zooey Deschanel I wouldn’t want to see her wrestle, I don’t think. So…Drew Berrymore would be a good wrestle candidate I think.

Drew Berrymore and…Catherine Zeta-Jones.

Quote:Assuming no headwind, what the the maximum airspeed of an unladen European swallow? What is the average airspeed?

42.

Quote:Have you seen Hard Candy?

Yes. When it was still indie/underground, I might add.

Quote:Thoughts on it?

I loved it. But not in the way most people seem to like it. I do not approve of the persecution of sex offenders. I believe precautions are necessary but they take a lot of hate from a lot of people. It is the one unforgiveable sin, it seems. It is terrible, yes. But hate towards them is just as ugly as what they do. With that out of the way, I did love the movie. The colors and cinematography was amazing. And because it was written by a playwright rather than a screenwriter, I appreciated it on a whole different level. The dialogue was fantastic and the characters were really well written. It’s very well done.

Quote:Did you fall in love with Hayley as much as I did?

Hayley? No. Ellen Page, yes. I was thoroughly impressed with her acting ability and she made my top five young actress list. That was the first movie I saw her in so seeing her as this adorable little thing in Juno was like WTF? But no. She’s very versatile. The mark of talent.

I confess, most of my studies have been more female-related. But Betty Dodson's book is more unisex. I <3 Female Orgasms is meant for women and those who want to make them happy so the only ones who might not get something out of that are gay guys.

I really loved this book: I <3 Female Orgasm. It's not particularly specific about anything but it covers a very wide range of topics and the couple who wrote it travel around and do sex education workshops, mostly on college campuses. I appreciated their sense of humor on the subject.
I loved that book too. I haven't read the others. Have you read the classic The Joy of Sex?

I would assume it's because I bear some similarities to her? Two X chromosomes, a bookish persona, and a sense of sarcasm maybe?

I love kitties! I have a kitty. She's a long-haired tortie. I named her Myrtle. And when she cries and moans like the diva she is, I call her moaning Myrtle.

COMMUNISM is when you have two cows, the governement takes both and gives you the milk
SOCIALISM is when you have two cows and give one to your neighbour.
NEW DEALISM (is when things go wrong) is when you have two cows, the government takes both, shoots one and milks the other but then throws the milk away.
CAPITALISM is when you have two cows and then sell one to buy a bull.
FACISM is when you have two cows, the government takes both and sells you the milk.
NAZISM is when you have two cows, the government takes both and shoots you.

I typed: "end of the world" into google and saw the hiroshima bombing and 9/11, irony much.

No, but I may bother to google it this week if people continue to ask questions and remind me.

fragile-esteem Wrote:is youtube your favourite tv channel?

No. I'm not sure I have one. I'm usually on TBS, [adult swim], TNT, Comedy Central, Bravo!, or USA. And occasionally ABC Family. I do like USA's whole character gimmick. But their new original shows kind of fail.

A little bit. I think every dancer does. Feet our our foundation. We learn to envy perfect feel pretty quickly.

On that note, I have like thirty pointe shoes in my closet that I am too emotionally attached to to part with. And it's only a small sample of pointe shoes I've broken in my short-lived dance career.

Re: Happy Camper Tells All

My old pointe shoes don't resemble pointe shoes anymore, you see they "die" and then I use them to practice at home and they die without the air quotes.

K, so pop quiz:

do you happen to know what Anna Pavlova's last words were?

Re: Happy Camper Tells All

The details are escaping me but I believed she requested them to play The Dying Swan, a piece she was rather famous for dancing in.

I glue my pointe shoes to no end. I'm curious as to what you wear now. I wore Freed Studios and Grishko 2007s most. Depending on whether I needed them for classes or performances. My Freeds gave great support but broke rather quickly along the sides of the boxes. And my grishkos shanks determined when they died but with some glue I could make 'em last a little longer.
