RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I quite agree. It could be a catastrophe if no one decides to start caring, but that probably won't be for awhile. We should probably start caring soon though

Re: Global Warming

Reality. I agree that it's overhyped but those on the far right (I would know, since I'm currently in Alabama) tend to ignore it. Apparently campaigning against birth control is more of a pressing matter than trying to not fuck up our planet anymore.

Go to work. Send your kids to school. Follow fashion. Act normal. Walk on the pavement. Watch TV. Save for your old age. Obey the law. Repeat after me: "I am free."

Re: Global Warming

It's an overhyped reality that needs a reasonable amount of attention, but we can still set it off to the side for a bit. Maybe another five or six years tops. It's not like we'll wake up tomorrow and there'll be goddamn lava dumping from the sky.

It always made me angry when they argued about overhyped bullshit like the muslims building their place in new york and gay rights when we have more important things like our jobs vanishing.

Re: Global Warming

If you read State of Fear by Crichton you'll see a pretty good argument for the not happening side of it.

Since that really shaped my views on it I'd say basically, show some real evidence as to the cause, effect, and how what we're already spending loads of money on to lessen global warming is working.

No simulation bullshit.

I have to agree with that, but just because we have no solid evidence doesn't mean we shouldn't try to keep the plant clean.

Yeah, we can try, but I don't want us wasting all this money on stuff that we don't really know if it even effects the environment.

I'm all for not ruining the planet, ecology and all that but global warming isn't necessarily all that's effecting the ecosystem.

It would be foolish to throw every bit of funding at cleaning up the Earth, but I believe a great deal should be. What we are doing may not be causing global warming, but we can still mess up the Earth with trash.

Re: Global Warming

Yeah, that's exactly what I am saying. Global warming is us wasting loads of money that could be used in a much better way, simply because we haven't confirmed anything about it.

Why not just worry about what we're doing to the environment by deforesting everything.

Well, that's exactly what State of Fear was saying. Global Warming is this huge fear you can get the masses to attempt to fix. He claimed it was the next nuclear winter; the promise of demise. There's no money in stopping deforestation, but if you scare the shit out of millions of people and get them to donate to a BS charity to stop global warming you'll make tons.

Agreed. I mean people seem to think that because we're fucking up the earth, all the people/corporations trying to "do their part" to save it in some way must be doing this from the goodness of their hearts. No, they're exploiting the situation to make a profit.
