RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

Failed everything
So, I really don't know where to put this, so i'll just put this all the way down here, as it's school-related.
So, anyway, today the report cards from my school were sent out, and mine is not all too great. I didn't pass a single subject (or, rather, they failed me), and this is the first time this really happened. It never happened anywhere else I went, and I've went to quite a few different schools. I really don't know what I'm supposed to do now, I don't know how long I can hide this from my insane school-obsessed parents, or what I'm supposed to do next year. (If go to the same place, i'm quite sure I will fail again.)

I kind of do. This is why I don't want to go the same school again next year.

Good luck with the parental units.
I can't think of any advice I'm afraid.

Shut up. You're of no use to me in a situation like this one.
BTW, my school doesn't give letter grades. It gives %'s.

I don't know yet. They did get the cards now actually, but they did not have any idea what all the hubers and columns meant. To try and keep them confused, I refused to explain to them, claiming not to understand it myself. However, I fear they might have their own ways of finding out, and then there's no telling what will happen.

totally correct.
*angry side* : it pisses me off the most when parents or teacher blame you for not passing the class. it IS their fault. there job is to teach you the material you need to learn in order to pass their class. if you dont pass, they have failed in their responsibility to teach you what you need to know.
^^ dont know if it helps much, but good luck with dealing with everything ^^ im rootin for ya man

Eh you can look at it another way. The teachers failed their purpose of teaching you. If you weren't trying to learn it, which is the most likely case, you didn't fail anything. You weren't trying, how could you fail?

No, it could not. I don't make the grades. I don't do any teaching. They failed me.
So despite the fact that you didn't want to get in trouble for your grades, it was still inevitable that you would fail every single class? There was absolutely nothing you could have done to not fail every single class and keep yourself in good standing with your parents?

Re: Failed everything
You can't fail yourself by not acheiving some goal that other people set for you that you had no say in. You only fail yourself if it was your own goal, that you chose, out of your own free will.

What I'm referring to isn't the fact that he failed in school but that he got in trouble when he had no intention of getting in trouble. The unfortunate part for him is that the two events are unavoidably linked, so in order to achieve his own goal of staying in the good graces of his parents, he must complete the goal that was assigned to him. What I'm harping on him for isn't the fact that he failed every class - if he can fly with that, more power to him - but rather that he failed his own objective and is shifting the blame.
