RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

This was mentioned in another topic, but I think it deserves its own thread...
http://www.vhemt.org/

Quote:"May we live long and die out"
Phasing out the human race by voluntarily ceasing to breed will allow Earth's biosphere to return to good health. Crowded conditions and resource shortages will improve as we become less dense.

Thoughts?

Ummm.... population control is a good thing. This is awful. Humans have the right to live.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

LOL. They're not suggesting murder, they're suggesting that we voluntarily stop breeding so the Earth doesn't get FUBAR from overpopulation, which is where we're already headed. I don't support extinction, but we've gotta stop with the overpopulation. It would make the Earth's problems as a whole so much easier to deal with.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

People won't do it because most are really stupid and don't care about the problem, and the population won't go down by much unless some horrible new disease shows up or there's a nuclear war or some other disaster.

(I try to look at the bright side of things. IT DOESN'T WORK.)

That's why the plants have to intervene...[/The Happening joke]

But really...I'm all for population control. Even if it's just as simple as not having six kids...but at the same time I like big families. And I, in recent years, have begun to understand that stupid breeding instinct. The idea of passing down your genetics. I thought it was stupid before but I kind of get it now. I mean...I like the idea of there being a minime in the future.

But I still wish more families adopted.

Let's do the time warp again!

Me too.

My earlier post aside, I had read this site before, and I like the way he thinks. I don't care so much for the extinction aspect, but I'd say things would probably be better if there where less people.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

Yeah, whoever wrote the stuff on that site is very intelligent. I'm pretty sure they only called it the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement to grab people's attention more... and aren't totally serious about actually wanting the entire human race to go completely extinct. I don't want the human race to go completely extinct... but everyone and everything on the planet would be better off if there were less of us, especially if there were less irresponsible and stupid humans around. But less in general is good.

This is bull crap. All we have to do is colonize Mars.
Of course, maybe some global catastrophe will happen in 2012 and it won't matter.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

wow, that is the most frigtarded i have ever seen. "human extinction movement." in case you guys know, te word extinction does not mean population control, it means that they want the human race to end in a couple of generations. those people are just a bunch of greentards who think earth would be better of without us. we may be the only form of intelligent life in the universe (we probably are not, but we might be), so we should cherish that.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

I don't have human extinction as my goal, but for all immediate purposes VHEMT is a good thing. It's educational, voluntary, and honest. I'm more inclined to believe humans should fill the role of "planet gardeners". Especially once we start colonizing other planets (if we last that long). Our concern should be the longevity, diversity, and affluence of all life, so what we need to do is fix our political and social ideologies to conform to that goal and think long-term.
A more challenging task is to look at the question from another angle. Saying you support voluntary abstinence is good, but do you also support voluntary reproduction? These are unfortunately one question, not two. If applying restrictions to reproduction was necessary to prevent wanton overpopulation/overconsumption, then I would even support nonvoluntary population control. Never outright eugenics, and certainly not negative eugenics, but simple birth prevention measures.

VHEMT does not want population control. they do not even want more green-societies. they want HUMAN EXTINCTION.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

Yes, but that's fine for them to want, at least as long as their means to that ends remains purely communicative. I'm not going to force someone to reproduce, and they're not going to force me to "live long and die out", so VHEMT is virtuous.

I still think Martian Colony is the way to go for population alleviation.
All we need to do is hold out on having too much unprotected sex for around 300-400 years. That should be enough time for Terraforming to take place.
It would be the pioneer days all over again!

I'm for involuntary sterilization of 90% of the human race. At this point, it's pretty much the only thing that can save us from killing ourselves through overpopulation. Tax breaks don't really seem to be working.

Yes of course you are, as long as you're not in the 90% of the people being sterilized.

Re: Voluntary Human Extinction Movement

Well those who were being sterilized would have to be sterilized for a reason ie mental disease, genetic mutation, or just plain stupidity. If we were to do this we have to have a very very thorough testing system to see who would be and who would.
