RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

The way I see it, a homosexual person probably spent alot of time with the opposite sex. Perhaps some of it rubbed on to them

The most likely option was that their parents weren't as lenient on their kids gender roles like other parents. Perhaps they never told them how "girls and boys should act."

Opinions on this? Biggrin

Re: Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

(Moving back to philosophical discussion because I think it's a legitimate topic, even if the OP was trolling).

The idea that heterosexuality is dependant on particular gender roles that must be taught is kind of problematic in that it doesn't explain what happened before people had language or any sense of gender roles in the abstract.

And I think it's an overstatement to deny that there's any relationship between gender expression and sexuality (although I would doubt that the relationship is a causal one), but there's not a perfect correlation. I had mostly female friends until puberty, begged my mom to teach me to sew basically from the time I was old enough to talk, had no doubt that I wanted children. But guess what? I'm still about as queer as a three dollar bill.

I mean, I think that my mannerisms and certain interests are more feminine that my actual personality, though.

"Do we treat straight public sex differently than we do gay public sex? Of course. Straight people are so proud of their public sex that they named a cocktail after it."

Re: Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

I always thought homosexuality was about sexual attraction and relationships, not about personality. If it was personality, then sure, this would make sense (and this probably counts for the "fake" homosexuals who are only really into it because of the whole culture thing)... but it doesn't explain people who are actually just attracted to people of the same gender.

I vote we change sexuality to: Pitchers and catchers.

Makes the entire thing a lot easier.

Re: Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

What I don't understand is why all of the gay people are obsessed with saying "WE WERE BORN WIT IT LOLO" to justify it. Why would they even want to justify it? Stop being a pussy and admit your gay because you want to be, not because "you were born that way."

Re: Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

In all fairness, there are times where I really wish I wasn't attracted to women. I still am though.

I don't think that it's anything to do with the influence of homosexual people. I know plenty of homosexuals who grew up in very conservative environments.

Uh, that's not true. It's not like I just thought one day, "heeey, everyone seems to love pussy, why don't I go the other way?"

Fags are born that way. But that's hardly an explanation for acting like a woman. Yeah, call me harsh, but I can't stand faggots who try to imitate and behave like girls.

RE: Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

Yeh but we don't know why but with each older biological brother a boy has, the more likely he is to be gay. It can't be a nuture thing because if some kids are adopted, it holds true and stuff like that.

Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

I spent more time with females than with males during my childhood, since my father was often at work for most of the day and my mother was unemployed(housewife) till recent years.

As far as I know, I'm quite heterosexual. Probably more than average even.

Homosexuality ain't a choice nor are you born with it

If I recall, they did a study on homosexual sheep and found differences in the brain structure and hormone production. The paper noted that similar differences (nice oxymoron) may occur in gay people.
