RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I'm getting My results tomorrow....

I dont wanna anyone to dress up their support and tell Me I will pass because I wont....This only adds to the intense sadness and general hopelessness I feel right now.

It's like I'm ending My life at 16 frankly as soon as I do bad I know it's all gonna go crashing down.

I worked I really did try, I don't know what to do...I'm supposed to go to collage but fear I won't get in after tomorrow

Hey, don't worry about it, randy. School isn't everything. I know that's cliche, but it's true. If you think your life is fucked, it's probably not. I'm not saying "don't worry about it" or that you have no problems, because I don't know you, but you can probably come out all right in the end. If you're 16, you could try to get your GED, depending on where you live.

Re: GCSE results tomorrow(UK)

Thunder is completely right- school isn't everything.

I don't know what exactly the GCSE is, but I can tell you that it isn't the most meaningful thing in your life right now. Your friendships and talents and life dreams are more valuable than one stupid test. Don't treat this test as though it's the most important thing in your life, because it shouldn't be.

If you fail, it will not be the end of your life. I used to feel that way about semester exam grades...and I gave up several friendships and hobbies to get those grades. Looking back, I see it wasn't worth it. Don't let something as superficial as a test score cause you to ignore the more meaningful aspects of life. Even if you fail it, you are no less important than had you passed it- either way, you're still an intelligent, talented guy. Like Thunder said, you can probably get a GED. There are always alternatives. (To quote James T. Kirk: "I don't believe in the no-win scenario.")

You say you're "supposed to" go to college...well, truth is, I think most of us are "supposed to" go to college. Not everyone does, though. Remember, not attending college doesn't make you an automatic failure. I'm expected to attend college, too, but I might not go. There are a few college dropouts here, I think.

Bottom line: you're not hopeless or worthless even if you fail. Feel better Hug ...I wish you luck Crossfingers Crossfingers Crossfingers

Re: GCSE results tomorrow(UK)

There is no GED in the UK... but that doesn't mean there isn't something similar, just with a different name. I don't know though.

I'm guessing the main reason you feel sick is 'cause of what other people will think of you after they see your results, right? Anyone who thinks less of you for failing an exam isn't worth worrying about, ... unless they're your parents and will give you some ridiculous punishment... but I hope that won't happen in your case. You'll be OK.

I've browsed UK job sites and there are shitloads of jobs out there that seem interesting which also don't require college.

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.
