RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: Fox News on Internet Safety

My brother, who was nine when he attended a lecture at school about internet safety, had a very smart friend who also attended.
At one point, the teacher talked about how you never "put your name on the internet".

Teacher: "Never put your name on the internet. Ever."
Brother's friend: "...Why?"
"Because someone could find out where you live."
"That's theoretically impossible. You would need to know a lot more than just someone's name."
"That's absolutely not true. All someone needs to find out where you live is your name. Now no more talking."

Also, I'd like to make it a well-known fact that Fox News is the very same corporation that convinced parents the PSP was a tool that could download porn at up to 10 mb/second.

zOMG, I'm so glad I don't have to attend shit like that. I'm sure it will either be painfully hilarious or will entirely ruin the concept of internet for everyone involved.
It would prolly just be another stupid assembly

Like the following pointless wastes of time:
"Drugs are bad, mkay?"
"Alcohols are bad, mkay?"
"Secks is bad, mkay?"

and coming in 2009:
"Internets is bad, mkay?"

No-one really pays attention to this kind of bull. Although it would be kind of silly to hear in class stuff like "Lulz is a corruption of lol which stands for laugh out loud", and other stuff like that...
laugh out loud

Re: Fox News on Internet Safety

Because anyone under 18 is definitely dumb enough to go to the park with a boy their age who shares the exact same interest as them and wants to meet them, then drives up in a huge white van. Sometimes I get the sensation that Fox is only being so blatantly biased and retarded that they're just trying to see who's stupid enough to actually watch.

Because I dig you, like Aussies dig pies, like Born-Agains dig Jesus, like Jesus dug guys.

This is why I don't watch the news.

GOSH, it pisses me the FUCK off. Doesn't it make you wish that you could just go into that broadcasting room and beat the shit at whoever's saying that?

It was hilarious how clueless they were.

I don't see what your problem is with Fox News other than the fact it is about as biased as CNN except toward the "right-wing" instead of the "left-wing". You forget the fact both wings are on the same "bird" of corrupt American politics and mass media.
And at least they aren't as blatant as MSNBC, those guys annoy me.

Re: Fox News on Internet Safety

Dude, all news is stupid.

Anchor - "And now we go live to Bill at the scene of a highway accident."

Bill - "Here we are at the horror of a drunk driver. 2 are dead, 3 seriously injured..."

People watching gasp in disbelief and horror.

Guess what? By the time the news report is over, another 200+ people will be dead. Fucking bullshit...Anything on the news that actually is important, you'd hear about anyway.
