RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Thank you for proving my point for me. Smile

I highly suggest Mobb Deep's albums The Infamous and Hell on Earth, if you have not listened to it yet.

No, we're just tired of the shit that comes out your mouth. I'll admit, I am a tweener in this vote. While I haven't known you that long, so I would vote no...But I have seen some stupid shit from you. More than I've ever posted back in the day when I was a newbie.

I'm just glad you aren't a mod. Probably fuck up everything and turn people's posts into something stupid. This is General Talk, and I don't really feel like flaming you anyway. Just change your act, dude. Stop being an asshole.

I actually used to be a mod back at 72dpi's forum.
The only reason my mod powers were revoked was because I flammed half of the active forum to an "unacceptable extent" while I was having a bad day.

If anyone actually does this, I will revert it. Srsly, WTF? On SS? Noo

Since there's a poll I am assuming this isn't just a 'for the lulz' question, or else someone would have just done it, had some lulz, and then put it back.

How hard is it really to ignore threads?

the censorship isn't the point. yeah, he's an immature dick with no friends. but remember what happened last time there was a real troll here? we gave into censorship just a little bit and now all of the sudden whenever anyone starts fucking around, someone inevitable starts a "should we ban?" thread. there's a slippery slope effect going on here and if we actually start banning people, it'll get much worse.

I fail to understand how you accuse me of having no friends and claim it as being the indisputable truth, yet have absolutely no proof to back it up.

Re: Should Bobmanperson have thread making privileges revoked?

trolls tend not to have real friends. they have the same human need for attention but since they can't get it in real life for whatever reason, they turn to the internet. but by then they have so little social experiance and maturity that they can't make friendly contact, so they make pointless posts in hopes of getting a reaction. it's the same reason why preschool kids provoke their parents when they're bored; they consider negative attention to be better than nothing.

but the term "troll" can be thrown around as easily as "terrorist." start banning trolls and what happens when the someone starts to loosen the definition just because they don't like somebody?

Bob's a dumbass at times (Especially if he thinks the chans would help him), but he really doesn't fall under the definition of a troll. I'm honestly a little disgusted any of you are actually considering this, anyways.

yeah, but the thing is these controversies usually go to a vote. if soul overrules a vote to ban it would open up a whole new debate, so i think it's just best if we just stand firm on the no censorship rule and not risk it.

Total inflexibility, which you are suggesting, is not a good thing.

And this is not censorship. Why do people think it is?

That'll happen over my dead, bloody, mutilated corpse. Biggrin

He hasn't made all that many topics really. It's nowhere near as bad as that time thunder posted telling The Avenger to STFU like 2 million times all over the forums... but nobody seemed to mind that.

Yes, it is, actually. Because things have this weird tendency to evolve.

Quote:You admit you're a troll. FAIL.
And yet, he wasn't always a troll. Dunno what's up with that. Maybe he'll also stop trolling at some point. That'd be nice.

Quote:Well, I don't think that would happen since SoulRiser is pretty damn strict about that banning shit, and I doubt a ban on any member would go unnoticed, or unchallenged.
'SoulRiser' and 'strict' in the same sentence? Wtf ... lol

Quote:And this is not censorship. Why do people think it is?
Technically, no, it isn't "censorship", but it is limiting someone's ability to say whatever they want whenever they want.

All parts of the forums show who started a thread. You can easily just not open ones by BMP if it really bugs you that much.
