What if I came to school with a swastika....

I'm extremely obsessed with india and hinduism. I'm not a Hindu, but what if I were to go to school with a Swastika painted on my forehead, or as a necklace or some other place visible on my body. Lets say I also tell everyone I converted to Hinduism. The very little I know about Hinduism is a thousand times what the average person knows about it, so I'd no doubt be able to convince anyone who questions me. Would they make me take it off? I could tell them that its for my religion and that its not the same as the Nazi Swastika due to positioning, and that Hitler stole the symbol from the Hindus.

It represented the sun, day, the rotation of the sun through the sky, the cycle of the four seasons, light, balance,goodness, good luck, et.

In the 1920's it became a popular good luck symbol in Europe and the USA, however they didn't realize that the direction mattered, the Finnish Air Force took it as their symbol but it was backwards.

The Nazi's copies the Finnish backwards swastika. A backwards swastika meant the opposite of a normal one... Night, darkness, the sun going backwards in the sky, imbalance, etc. Some people started to realize this in the 30's, supposedly the old Kaiser wrote Hitler to switch it back, the nazis kept it though, they even decided to make the disc area opaque so that the swastika was the same on both sides of the flag.

I'm not going to do it, I was just wondering what everyones thoughts are. Its the right thing to do, but I can't be bothered, I already deal with enough bullshit in school as it is.

But yeah, if I were to do it I wouldn't half ass it by copying the symbol from Hitler, I'd make sure it was the original Hindu Swastika and tell them that it looks different.

I hand painted 666 in the shape of a clover, beautiful calligraphy I might add, on my forehead one day, I went to school and they asked me to take it off because it offended them. I told them to take the crosses in their bags of because they offended me, they didn't, do I said, if you tell me to take this off, you have to ban every other religious symbol from this school, otherwise I would sue. Great fun.

I believe I've said this recently but I'll say it again:

"Pick your battles."

It'd be a provocative move for sure. If your intention is to spur discussion and reclaim a symbol that has meaning to you, that's fine. If you want life to be easy...well this isn't the way to do it. You're gonna offend a lot of people probably. But if you can live with that, then you'll live with that.

I remember my old classmates used swastikas as props for Cabaret this year at my old high school. There was so much paranoia about them only being seen in the theatre. (They had these huge flags that dropped back behind the audience at the end with mirrors on stage that reflected Nazi flags behind the audience and members of the cast in amongst the audience with armbands. It was bold and effective.) But I'm not sure how relevant that is. The idea was that between the opening instrumental and curtain call, they were serious business. Immediately after curtain call the theatre returned to being a safe place.

Not very relevant. But I'm a little tipsy. Somehow the dots connect. Sue me.

I agree with this, I have had so many chances to tell cops off when they say that young people are stupid and should mind authority but I didn't and got out of the situation with no trouble. The point is that standing up and fighting is all well and good but sometimes its better to consider the conditions and rewards of the battle and if its not worth it then its better to walk away then to fight for something meaningless such as attention.

Freedom of religion. If the school tells you to take it off tell them that if you did that then every otehr person MUST take off thier crosses, jewish stars and the like. If they comply with that then you will take off your swastika
