RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

I never said that just because past religions were proved to be wrong that it must mean the same thing for present religions. It was merely an example that supported my opinion.

And of course there's a way to know which are false and which aren't. None of the claims in Christianity for example have any evidence. None whatsoever. You know why? Because there is none. There's no hell, there's no heaven, there's no god. It's real in people's minds, but not in real life.

Quote:It's actually interesting stuff to study and experiment with.

I don't find LYING to myself to be very interesting. Now, I don't know about you or anyone else, but if that's the way you feel, suit yourself.

Quote:Why do people want to believe that there's nothing more to life than the physical, and that you just live, die and then rot? I mean, sure, that's fine, but then people who believe that seem to be very defensive about it, almost like they have a problem with people who are genuinely enjoying not agreeing with it. Almost like they have a problem with people who enjoy life in general. Almost like they want life to be some mundane torture that everyone has to go through and then be 'relieved' when they die and get eaten by worms. I just don't get it.

I'm one of those people, as you may have noticed, and I'm sure you said it because I came off as being such a person. I don't necessarily want to believe it. It's just the way it is. Did you think I wanted to accept the fact that there was no god? No, it was very hard for me. But I'm not going to just shrug off the truth just because I feel more secure BELIEVING in one. And I don't have a problem with people who enjoy life. Sorry, but that's kind of...ignorant. Who said I didn't enjoy life? I do enjoy it and certainly don't want it to be "mundane torture". It's not about wanting though. It's about the way it is. Life DOES suck. Who here can tell you: my life so far has been excellent, not one bad thing has happened to me and I WANNA LIVE FOREVER IN A HUGE DANDELION FIELD SKIPPING WITH WHITE BUNNIES AND LOOKING AT RAINBOWS!!! LIKE OMIGOSH!

Honestly people, look at the facts. There's no purpose to life. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy those fun moments while they last.

Because it goes something like this: you're born, you live, and then you die.
Now tell me why life is so important when everything will eventually end.
