RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

I don't think so. Because I think you're smart enough to know that these things you say aren't true.

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

Most of mine have been said already - but I'll add the top two the never fail to make me enemies.

1) Twilight (the book and the series) is just not that good. It's ok, but no need to drool/warhsip/obsess about them The drooling/worshipping/obsessing just makes it worse.

2) Rock music is fake and written by people who wish that their life was terrible so that they can get a reputation as disturbed and a freak. Rap music on the other hand is real, written by people who actually have had a terrible life and know what they're talking about.

And then the usual -

- Abortion is ok.
- Human cloning is ok (as long as it's controlled).
- Eating meat is ok (we were meant to do it by nature. We wouldn't have canine teeth if we were meant to be vegitarians.)
- The war in Iraq is a good thing.
- Being faithfully religious is stupid.
- Totally agree that women should be included in the draft (if the U.S ever get's a draft passed again, I'll sign up).
- Being on the internet is better for me than watching TV (my parents disagree with this one).

It is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. - Neal Vitale
I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints. The sinners are much more fun.
Everyone can back up their opinions. Some people just do it a whole lot better than others. - Rebelnerd
Here's to the men and women who did what was considered wrong, in order to do what they knew was right.
'Of course it is happening inside your head, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?'" - JK Rowling

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

One of my most controversial opinions is whether or not mercenaries should be allowed.

Half of me says hell yes it would be great to make money off of your own private army that no one can fuck with.

The other half says making money off of war or death in general is totally morally wrong and turning war into a business is ridiculous.

The problem is maybe one day I will become a mercenary. I doubt it but if I do how will I feel then?

Your opinions?

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

My opinion is that everyone says they'll be a mercenary at some point, but no one ever does. So it's pretty much irrelevent.

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

well mercenaries are only useful if theres war, and hopefully ppl want no war, so whether its right or wrong isnt as important since we should be focusing more on not needing them...

Re: What are some of your most controversial opinions?

I don't think there's anything past the physical. No souls, no spirit, no "psi", "ki", "chi", no physical thoughts, no Gods, no afterlife. There's no evidence, and I have no reason to believe any of that stuff; this gains me the label of "close - minded" quite a bit. I mean, people's emotions are developed from chemicals in the brain aligning a certain way and... nevermind.

Pro - Abortion Rights

Atheist

Everyone has the right to own a gun; it just has to be a musket.

Pro - Gay Marriage (it disappointments me that there is still controversy over this).

Twilight, the Jonas Brothers, and Hannah Montana all SUCK.

Pro - Optional School (Who here isn't?)

Since I don't believe any sort of moral right or wrong (read Embrace the Horror on Cracked.com - great satirical article), there can be no factual, base argument against consensual pedophilia, bestiality, or excessively burning fossil fuels. That said, if you perform any of these, you're still kind of a douchebag.

Free will is nonexistent, as is fate.

Dane Cook is alright, most people seem to dislike him only because it's "cool" to dislike him now.

Anti - Death Penalty

Anti - Grammatically Retarded Facebook Statuses

Pro - "They" as a third person, gender - neutral, singular pronoun.
(The web application Minekey can be very useful in spreading these opinions.)

Because I dig you, like Aussies dig pies, like Born-Agains dig Jesus, like Jesus dug guys.

GUNZ = Yuck

nuff' said...

and "Twilight, the Jonas Brothers, and Hannah Montana all SUCK." is far from controversial to most here...and the world in general i hope, not the media owned world of course, but i'd like to think that the majority of the population agrees with that... if not, then we are indeed heading towards the Apocalypse...

I don't think 9/11 was a inside job.

I hate a good majority of fads.

I hate myspace.

I hate texting via phone.

I hate the public school system.

I believe Anarchy could work, and it has.

Jonas Brothers, 97% of rap, Hannah Montana, Fall Out Boy, etc. suck quite a lot.

Socrates is awesome, at least my dad thinks that's controversial.

The fact that I can't think of anything else to post in this post.

"I heard a joke once. Man goes to doctor says "I'm terribly depressed". Doctor says "I know just what you should do. Poliacci the clown is in town, go see him, you'll be cheered right up." The man bursts into tears. "But Doctor, I am Poliacci." Funny joke. Roll on snare drum. Everyone laugh."
