RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

Reasons why I want to be single, live in a flat.

Well I calculated that If I wanted to rent a flat for monthly , I found a cheep studio flat for £300 monthly, Also working at tescos I'd get payed £5.50 an hour so it Isn't too good but Its enough. (working 10 hours a day)
Pay Every 2 weeks: £772.80
Pay I'd get overall every month: £1545.60 - Flat rent monthly = £1245.60 so lets round that off to £1000 for lesuire items a month and £245.60 for food (1 man doesn't need much money for food Biggrin )

Soo onto reasons why I want to be single , live In a flat and why work is better thn school ( couldn't fit that in title):

1. I don't have to live with my parents.
2. I don't have to live with anyone.
3. My parents can't tell me what to do:
4. They can't tell me how to live.
5. They can't tell me how I should decorate my room.
6. They can't stop me from going on the computer for long amounts of time ( including games )
7. No one can tell me what is right and wrong.
8. You get payed at work , unlike school.
9. I won't get told off If I have wacky hairstyles at work.
10. They won't give me a detention if I do something wrong.
11. I'm safe in the knowledge that no-body can walk in whilst I'm masterbating.
12. I have privacy.
13. I'm completely Independent.
14. In a relationship I feel restricted.
15. I can't think off anymore.

Re: Reasons why I want to be single, live in a flat.

Dude...70 hours a week based on what you said. You'd have to be crazy to do that. Normal work week is 40 hours. That's $220 a week. This is plenty to live off. Yes, you won't have much money to do anything else (less then 300). But that's the result of a minimum wage job.

Go ahead, it's no worse then school (you don't learn anything at school to begin with). Be warned though, job security doesn't exist. You are risking a place to live by doing it, since you get layed off at anytime.

Well, it's just the 70 hour thing...after 7 hours of sleep a day, that leaves about 51 hours a week to do what you want. Add in "living" time, and it's down to about 40 hours. That's pretty darn shit if you ask me.

Yeah when It would come closer to the time I'd probably cut down the hours.

Re: Reasons why I want to be single, live in a flat.

300 pounds for a whole flat is seriously cheap. ... I guess you're not in London then, eh? Razz Over there just a plain single room costs 300 a month.

That 10 hours a day thing might be a bit of a pain though. That would drive me totally nuts. I'm not saying don't do it, but look at it as a temporary thing until you find something better. There are lots of weird jobs out there in the world, and you can make your own too. Smile

Isn't the UK in a recession right now? You need to rethink this, give it some time. I'm not sure how the economy is going to play out in the next few years.

Rofl

This just reminded me of my wanting to calculate how much money I might make and how long it'll take until I can move out and live on my own.

Re: Reasons why I want to be single, live in a flat.

i dont know man, why not just deal with school for a couple more years and then regain that time later plus you will have job security and you will not have to work 70 a fucking week, im just saying like every one else it doesnt seem that bad now, but with no retirement 60 years of that shit doesnt sound too appealing

How will you get to work?
also
I wanted to warn you about the loneliness feeling, its worse than being at school even if you don't talk to anyone there.

I recommend you set some time a part to get some fresh air Smile

Who am I? That is irrelevant.
What am I here for? That will become apparent.
