RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017
The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.
If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.
To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.
I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.
I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.
I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.
I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.
Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.
Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.
-SoulRiser

I'm about to get a book on permaculture gardening:
Gaia's Garden: A Guide to Home-Scale Permaculture, 2nd Edition

What Art Thou Reading?
I'm currently reading 1984 by George Orwell and End of Watch by Stephen King; I'm also supplementing my novels with short stories by Poe, Lovecraft and Bradbury.
"Then it was straight to the 40 ouncers/ slapping teachers and jacking off in front of my counselors." As the World Turns - Eminem.
"A man is a success if gets up in the morning and gets to bed at night, and in between does whatever he does what he wants to do." - Bob Dylan.
"A good artist should be isolated. If he isn't isolated, something is wrong." - Orson Welles.
"That is not dead which can eternal lie, and with strange eons, even death may die." - H.P. Lovecraft.
"I became insane, with long intervals of painful sanity." Edgar Allan Poe.

What Art Thou Reading?
'A little update, baby! Now, I'm reading A Catcher in the Rye. I've waited to get my hands on this baby for a LONGGG time; I've read about 100 pages on a PDF. But now that I've got a physical copy... The book is going to be read so many times it'll fall apart by tomorrow night.

It's kickass so far. And now that I've got a muffin and coffee with it, I'm not going back to the real world. NO THANK YOU!
Maybe I'll return to the real world just to find a phsysical copy of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. It's pretty fucked up that I saw fifteen copies of Fifty Shades of Grey and even more copies of the sequel in two different places in the store, but only found two copies of Catcher in the dusty, un-visited asshole of the store.

RE: What Art Thou Reading?
If I ever manage to escape the menace and shadow of school for a while, I'll be reading A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man by James Joyce and Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and maybe I'll get unto Slaughter House 5 by Kurt Vonngut.

I started reading 1984 like a month ago, then I stopped. I am on page 4.

Yeah, school made me stop reading 1984. I said why in hundreds of posts till I was tired of saying it so just look for the reasons there.
