RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

The only definition that matters is the definition from the guy you're currently conversing with.

Life is life. It is the meaning. Or rather, what you make of it is the meaning.

Humans have a limited capability to learn and process while computers and Artificial intelligence has an infinite amount of memory to process data. what we don in the universe is insignificant because of our lifespan we can only go so far. Machines can literally live forever and can expand out further.

Not really... what if the universe eventually collapses to a singularity? There isn't really such a thing as forever.

We probably could live forever if our shitty organisms weren't programmed to die, and would be better at regenerating themselves.

Go read Cracked's article on why living forever would suck: http://www.cracked.com/article_18708_5- ... death.html I also think that the entire concept of immortality, and what would happen if we achieved it, would make a puny human mind go batshit insane if they thought about it long enough.

Nowdays you get to work your ass off to get some good grades, then work your ass off to get a good job, then everything left is death. So what are we aiming for working as hard as we can, humans don't know their time of dying so why bother? Life was suposed to be filled with happiness and such yet we managed to ruin it...

Since when was life ever supposed to be filled with happiness? The life of just about every animal except maybe top-of-the-food-chain predators already sucks. For humans, the only reason life doesn't suck as much as it could is because humans have been trying to make it better. And life still tends to suck a lot anyways, especially if you're unlucky enough to be born into crappy situations.

Who says it can't? We restrict ourselves of too much (We can't let our true selves come out because of what others say, for example). We place a false sense of duty for ourselves and its gets stressful and it doesn't need to be. Guess that fake duty makes up for our lack of purpose.

I don't believe in the afterlife, but why say death is a bad thing?

Everything must come to an end. Makes me smile a little.

This. Attempting immortality is, in my opinion, one of the most arrogant, selfish and cowardly things someone could ever do.

Immoratilty is a curse. I would never ask for it.

Reminds me of this quote:

"" Eternal life isn't a gift, but arguably the most horrific tortures that can be laid on a sentient being. I mean, sure, the first million years might be fun, but what about the next million and the billion after that and the trillion after that and you would still have an eternity left. This is never going to end; there will never be an end in sight. Eternal life is nearly the poorly thought out fiction of mortals that gotten greedy. Eternal life would be a curse. Without death, there is no reason to do things. Eternal life would rob you of purpose. And this is how things would remain for an eternity and an eternity after that and an eternity after that. I strongly urge you to accept your mortality. Do not let your fear of your inevitable death make you waste your mortal life pursuing phantasms and illusions. Look at yourself in the mirror. For billions of years, those particle, which are currently looking back at your circulatory place in the universe, but for a brief moment they have coalesced in you. Rejoice in the impressive instant until they dissipate whence they came. Delight that your a spark of life in the universe. Life is so much more vibrant and vivid without bronze age paranoid superstitions that cloud and contrap the mind with some empty and undesireable promise that sparks can burn forever. Our time is finite. This gives our lives meaning. This gives our lives purpose. This gives our lives urgency. Live life today; savor it."

Cowardly in the face of death,
Arrogant in the face of life.

Either way Immorality is stupid.
