RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Yo - What's Crackin?

Alright, the title was kind of ghetto - but at least it should stand out from all of the other dull "Hello"'s and "Hi"'s, right?

Laugh

I'm Aviator. I chose that name because last night, right before I went to bed, I put on my awsome aviator sunglasses and realized just how cool(ish) they were, and decided that Aviator's a good name to use on the forums. I have another name I normally use, but that's related to all sorts of online gaming stuff and communities that I'd like to keep seperate. I was a big Runescape fan up until a few months ago, when - oh forget it. It's a long story and not something I'd like to make a first impression with.

Anywho...

Right, so, I signed up here, because recently, I found that I just hate school. (Duh). Or rather, not school so much as the system that runs the school. My teachers and stuff are great, being forced to read some classics for english isn't the end of the world, and even homework isn't awful enough to give me this sort of cold hate for the system, but when I look at everything else that is part of the school, I hate it. We (the students) are treated like cattle - hearded from one room to another to be fattened up with knowledge so that some day in the near future society can pick us apart and examine us under microscopes in the work force. The deans and principals are the ones who enforce this treatment of us, and punish us when we act out. Yet, their the most stupid of all. They don't actually make the rules, or even act on them in a correct way. They don't listen to valid arguments, or accept advice or complaints, and instead act in their own, district approved way.

Morons.

I've been working for a while to try and undermine their power, but they've cowed the student body. No one wants to be the one to stand up to them, because they'll bring the wrath of the district down on their heads. No one, but me. Every chance to challenge them, I do, even if it's not my own deal. I come up with ideas to make school fun, and try my hardest to get others involved. But they always squelch it. I hate them, and I have hardly any respect for any of them. The only school staff member that I ever semi - trusted is gone now - she got a better job somewhere else. So now, I have no one I can trust.

Deans - see what happens when I see a kid pull the fire alarm and you try to get me to tell you who did it. I won't tell you. You havn't earned it. The fire alarm puller has made school a much better place than you.

Oh man - ok, back to the topic of that thread. I didn't mean to rant.

Introducing myself... hmm... what to say...

I'm a girl.
I get awsome grades.
I'm in honor's classes.
I want to work for the FBI some day.
I want to challenge and change the school system.
And now I'm a member here.

Alrighty, that's it for now - I'm gonna go find something warmer to wear. This T-Shirt isn't cutting it for November weather.

See you on the boards.

Later gators. Cool

So far, I'm feeling warm and fuzzy about posting here. Biggrin

You guys seem like a close knit community, and you're all fairly intelligent as well. Everyone's voice seems to be heard here. It isn't too often that I can join a board without feeling like a complete outsider, but it's homey here. Biggrin

Thanks guys.

I'm no republican, or democrat, even. I'm my own seperate party... which will probably never get into the white house, but, you never know. Smile

Thanks for the late welcome, Random!

therenagadeoffunk, hmm... views... on you... well, from what I've seen of your posts, I don't like, that's for sure. Now, the personality which you described isn't so bad, I happen to be all of that, although not so quiet... and maybe not so violent, and, maybe I do fit into social situations better than I think, which would make me not so socially impaired. Alright, so, scratch that - people like that arn't so terrible. As long as they keep their violence to themselves. And act generally intelligent in front of people, and at least to TRY and fit in.

Question -

At which point do you guys consider people to move beyond the noob stage of forum life?

Re: Yo - What's Crackin?

Hi Aviator. Welcome to the forums. Biggrin

You seem like an intelligent person, and so that I would like to take this once in a life opportunity to inform you of several facts concerning the Butt Pirates in legalese:

1) The organization is defunct, and will likely not come back under penalty of death.

2) The organization was full of fail, which is what ultimately caused its demise.

Basically, the point of this is to let you know that it was a stupid fucking idea and it should NEVER be brought up again. If anybody else says anything to the contrary, shoot them with a rifle.

(No, seriously. It's fucking stupid. Just... don't ask.)
