RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Is It Really Over?

Everyone has me convinced that if I don't graduate HS and go to college my life will be over and I'll end up jobless with a miserable life. But school can't be the only way can it? I just have no will to try and go to that worthless building. Even if I do graduate my grades are so shitty (64 GPA) that I probably won't get accepted to any college. At this point if I can just stop all this bullshit and get a job that makes me enough money just to survive and live in a crappy apartment I'd be over joyed. Idk what the point of writing all of this is but no one around me will listen.

My family doesn't care that I am miserable grinding through this school bs they just pressure me to go and go they tell me shit like everyone in your family graduated HS and graduated college and university, is that supposed to motivate me? Because it doesn't it just makes me depressed because I am letting everyone down. If only I had a plan for my future something that didn't involve school but also something that didn't result in me living on the streets, if that were the case I'd just tell everyone to fuck off, I'd tell them I don't give a fuck about what makes you happy. I'd know what I am going to be doing for the rest of my life and it doesn't involve any of your bullshit.*Sigh

Re: Is It Really Over?

You dont need school to get monies.

I heard about a guy who got from a red papr clip to a house just by trading that paperclip fo other stuff.

Re: Is It Really Over?

sorry. this is an anti-school site, so obdviously i wouldnt expect there to be many members who think school is essential.

Re: Is It Really Over?

Well, the only time anyone ever really cared 'bout my school diploma was when I applied for college... and I didn't ever get to use the qualification I got from college. I make money from advertising on my websites. Granted, not everyone can do this, and it takes time to get going. Pretty much every way to make money that doesn't involve working for someone else takes time to get going. Often they kind of hit you by accident and you didn't really plan it. There are plenty of jobs out there that don't require college, but most want some equivalent of a HS diploma (GED is fine if you're in the US).

Summary: no, your life is not "over" if you don't graduate. Your life is only over when you're dead. Until that happens, there's always a way to make things work. Just 'cause other people don't see it doesn't mean it isn't there. Possibilities are infinite.
