RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

RTS games/MMORPG games

Can anyone recommend me any? I've enjoyed these kind of games and am willing to find more.

mmorpg... theres really only like, 4 ways you can go with this. Everquest(which sucks), City of Heroes. World of Warcraft, or any free game( i recommend Maple Story. Runescape is alright too i spose)

for rts... um.... it sort of depends on the console >_< which one(s) wil you be playing them on?

Don't play MMORPGs. They all suck atm (i.e. huge amounts of grinding, combat takes less skill then playing pong, etc etc). If you want an MMORPG that takes skill, wait for Darkfall to come out (Official release data Jan 22).

As for RTS games, soooooo much easy. Starcraft:Broodwar is the most balanced RTS EVAH. If you want to get good though, you'll need hands that move so fast they blur. You can have tonnes of fun being a newb though. Also, the campaign is epic.

Oh. Another RTS that rocks is Complete Annihilation. It's based of Total Annihilation. It's technically a mod for the Spring Engine, which you'll need to play it. It's not that popular atm, but Balanced Annihilation is, which is also based off Total Annihilation.

Those are the only good RTS games I really know of that are good. Down of War is a PoS, that has huge balancing issues, and the heros ruin any real strategy. Warcraft 3 has the same problem. They're both just micro fests with barely any macro. Yeh, I think pretty much every other RTS sucks. Empire Earth might be good, except I've never really played it. Try that out as well if you want.

Also, if you don't mind turn based games, Go...is just well plain fucking awesome. You can apply the stuff you learn playing Go to pretty much everything. Yes, even your job.

Epic win book.

for the PC of course. I can never own a PS2 or other stuff like that. Too expensive!

WoW, especially the private servers, is full o'lag.

Try again.

Honestly, I think the only reason WoW is so popular, is because it's exactly like a job. Boring, repetitive and lots of water cooler socializing. fucking easy.
