RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Google owns the site. So they can do whatever the fuck they want with it. Youtube is INTERNATIONAL. Free speech really only applies in America. Idiots fucking forgot.

Yes, but there is nothing wrong with trying to get free speech on youtube.

Don't you believe people should have the right to make their videos public, I mean, if they are good why not? Instead, the are being "algarithmicaly demoted" (whatever the fuck that means).

This is soooooooo long overdue. Pretty much every change to the site has been for the worse. No matter what they do and when we think that it can't get worse, they alway find a way to make their site even crappier.

Sure. But you don't need youtube to do it. The fact is, they're a privately owned company, and corporations aren't required to respect the free speech rights of thier employees (in this case youtube vloggers) There are plenty of other sites out there like blogtv, where you can host your programs, and be as profane as you want.

All youtube is doing is killing their supply of revenue. Most of the people who would be effected by this new policy have the most subscribers and thus bring in the most money. If They leave and go to other media providers, then all youtube will be left with is video's about peoples cats, fanvids, and crappy movie reviews. They'll lose the business they tried to keep in the first place.

I say let them go for it.

Re: Youtube boycot

OH NO SOME YOUTUBE VIDEOS MIGHT HAVE SWEARWORDS

That sucks. Srsly, they'll punish people from using FUCK or SHIT, but terrorist nutters on YT canstill get away with using "kaffir" which in the middle east has the same effect as "nigger" over here. But they won't get punished, will they? No. I didn't think so.

Re: Youtube boycot

Just get over it and move on to the next big internet video sharing site. The internet is VERY young compared to world industry and this happens all the time. A really cool company with a really cool concept makes a product. It sells great, the owner is nice, it's small time and everyone's friends. Fast forward, that old owner wants to retire and sells the business. It inevitably ends up in the hands of douche-bags.

They never had a relationship with you, don't care about you, and have no intimate contact with anything. They batten down the hatches in the name of a higher profit, charge you more for that thing they were selling and eventually people move on after that business is finished shooting itself in the foot. This will happen in the internet as well. Youtube was cool, time to move on.

No, not time to move on. If it's going to happen to the internet too, then we can't just keep running away to the next big thing and waiting for it to fall. Eventually there will be no outlet for free communiction left to flee to. What then?

I think Buenaventura Durruti is a pretty cool guy. eh kills fascists and doesnt afraid of ruins.

Whenever I've done that in the past it gets deleted within 10 views.
