RIP School Survival Forums
August 2001 - June 2017

The School Survival Forums are permanently retired. If you need help with quitting school, unsupportive parents or anything else, there is a list of resources on the Help Page.

If you want to write about your experiences in school, you can write on our blog.

To everyone who joined these forums at some point, and got discouraged by the negativity and left after a while (or even got literally scared off): I'm sorry.

I wasn't good enough at encouraging people to be kinder, and removing people who refuse to be kind. Encouraging people is hard, and removing people creates conflict, and I hate conflict... so that's why I wasn't better at it.

I was a very, very sensitive teen. The atmosphere of this forum as it is now, if it had existed in 1996, would probably have upset me far more than it would have helped.

I can handle quite a lot of negativity and even abuse now, but that isn't the point. I want to help people. I want to help the people who need it the most, and I want to help people like the 1996 version of me.

I'm still figuring out the best way to do that, but as it is now, these forums are doing more harm than good, and I can't keep running them.

Thank you to the few people who have tried to understand my point of view so far. I really, really appreciate you guys. You are beautiful people.

Everyone else: If after everything I've said so far, you still don't understand my motivations, I think it's unlikely that you will. We're just too different. Maybe someday in the future it might make sense, but until then, there's no point in arguing about it. I don't have the time or the energy for arguing anymore. I will focus my time and energy on people who support me, and those who need help.

-SoulRiser

The forums are mostly read-only and are in a maintenance/testing phase, before being permanently archived. Please use this time to get the contact details of people you'd like to keep in touch with. My contact details are here.

Please do not make a mirror copy of the forums in their current state - things will still change, and some people have requested to be able to edit or delete some of their personal info.

Organize Sweden

Hi,

I'm a high-school dropout, now temporary teacher, who crave life and real "education". Got some ideas and thoughts, now wanting to organize "anti-school"/"life knowledge" proejcts in Sweden.

ARE YOU FROM SWEDEN AND WANTING TO ORGANIZE? Or do you know anyone from Sweden who might be intressed?

Re: Organize Sweden

Boy you came at the wrong time.

Also we're not a big community unfortunately, and nobody here is from Sweden. Most people here are from America and the UK.

By the way, please ignore the forums labeled: School Ramblings, General Talk, and especially Recycle Bin.

Re: Organize Sweden

I think there was someone from Sweden at some point. Not sure if he's still here though.

What kind of projects did you have in mind?

Re: Organize Sweden

To bad,

I had a couple of things I'm keen to be part of organizing.

* First of all just get some info. and words out in the schools. That there are options, and that they are not what the school tells them they are etc. Maybe translating alot of things connected to this page, and creating some kind of forum for swedish speaking people.

* Start up a skip class activity. So each week during school time there is an activity planned. E.x. see the options to work/school by visiting people who live diffrent, go to the woods, talk, watch a movie, climp the hills, hang out, discuss or what ever...

* Create a home schooling commuity (or and daycare center for younger people)

Re: Organize Sweden

God that sounds awesome...

Anyway ... if you see stupid stuff on this forum, just ignore it and try to make better posts. Our forum isn't very good right now, and it would be nice if it was turned around.

Re: Organize Sweden

Personnly I'm kind of intressed to learn to be independet from the school/work system, or the Empire as a whole. I'm learning where and how I can get food, clothes, health, fire/warmth without going to the supermarket, or any other suppressing system. But more important, to learn who we really are. TO get to know our place in this pretty fucked up world. and to heal from the trumas we all have been trough, if it is school, family or just everydaylife we have lived which have deeply traumitized us to be filled of fear.

Your thoughts sound a lot like mine. I would recommend reading a book called Mindful Economics. You may also be interested in the website www.energybulletin.net.

If you're young, you may be in luck. I believe that humanity is about to experience a massive sociocultural shift. In perhaps 30 years, the world will operate very different from today. What will change is a move from an interlinked international economy where we are all dependent on each other for trade, to a more self-sufficient time period. This will happen if capitalism fails, which I believe it will due to the coming global depression and the depletion of oil. The system will be forced to change whether we like it or not.

Re: Organize Sweden

I was about to tell you to go to the wiki, and help fill in the Sweden page, but it seems there's some issue with the server right now... so that'll have to wait. Sad

Basically we're trying to gather info on alternatives in all the countries of the world, because information like that seems to be hard to find on the internet.

I also want to put up lots of info on alternative lifestyles, like job stuff and how to live without one... stuff like that.
